Can the DJ edit be extracted from the LP version? I know
the intro is shortened (not sure by how much, but I
wouldn't think that would account for the entire edit).

Yes, it can.
EDIT: Please use Doug's timings below. My initial timings used an "edit of LP version" instead of the full LP version.

Thanks for your assistance, Aaron.
Actually, there's a 16 second a cappella intro before the guitar on the LP version starts (there appear to be two radio edits--one that just removes these 16 seconds [and where your timings appear to be from] and the other that removes a lot more). So I get these timings:
Remove the first 39.3 seconds of the LP version.
Keep everything until (2:48.24).
Cut from (2:48.24) to (2:53.56).
Keep everything until (2:56.31) (after you've made the above edits).
Cut from (2:56.31) to (3:07.10).
Keep everything until (3:32.99) (after you've made the above edits).
Cut from (3:32.99) to (3:38.43).
Keep everything until the end (although the fadeout is about a second or two sooner on the edit--during the final cymbal taps).

I totally forgot about that intro! I'm not sure if my starting file is an official edit or not. It was taken from a promo CD called "Spotlight On Hits Pop Vol. 28." It's highly possible that they removed the acapella intro just for that compilation.
The official promo is CDP 1480:
1. Edit (listed 4:16; actual 4:17)
2. non-described version (listed & actual 5:21)
