The 45 is a straight edit and early fade of the LP version. The 45 plays at the same speed as the LP, unlike "Misunderstanding", which was sped up for the 45.

I have the LP version on the W. German Virgin Charisma pressing of Duke, which seems to be a preferred mastering for Duke. (The thread on the Steve Hoffman site is huge and unwieldy. You're welcome to read through it, but it will take days.) I think the common '80s-era US pressing is a different mastering, and is also pretty well regarded. The timings below are likely pretty close.

Remove the 4 hi-hat beats from 0:00.0 to 0:01.9 of the LP version.

Segment 1:
Starts on the first guitar strum
16 beats long
Extends from 0:00.0 to 0:07.8 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 0:01.9 to 0:09.8 of the LP version.

Remove the 10 (!) beats from 0:09.8 to 0:14.6 of the LP version. This is why the LP intro sounds weird for the first few listens - it's 4+16+10 beats long.

Segment 2:
Extends from 0:07.8 to 3:24.6 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 0:14.6 to 3:31.3 of the LP version.

Fade:
Begins on a crash cymbal
39 beats long (3 repetitions of 13-beat downbeat-to-downbeats; careful with the crazy time signature)
Extends from 3:06.7 to 3:24.6 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 3:13.4 to 3:31.3 of the LP version.

Your mixdown will run 3:24.6 with one edit at 0:07.8.

I have a promo 45 that runs 3:28. Perhaps, my copy runs
slower that your source for editing.

More likely is that I neglected the very, very end of the
tail of the fade. I made sure I got the shape right, but
it's possible that the 45s extend a bit longer at the
really low volume.
