Would it be a violation of policy to post links to short
samples of songs here for reference purposes? If it is
kept under a minute, would it be OK?

I do not know about the legality of posting short song samples. I know ITUNES for example allows you to listen to 1 minute samples of a song but they probably have permission to do so. Rather than face a potential copyright infringement lawsuit I would say we have gotten along nicely for 10 years without posting song samples so let's not start now.

I agree with Pat. That said, if you posted samples on a web page that you set up and posted the URL that would be different. I do not know what legal complications, if any, that would pose for Pat as the operator of the board (allowing posting of access to copyrighted materials).
I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on television. I am not dispensing legal advice, just posting an opinion whilst passing through.
