A top 5 single in 1979, completely forgotten today, and completely overshadowed by Maxine Nightingale's own "Right Back Where We Started From" from 1976. "Lead Me On" was co-written by Allee Willis, who co-wrote Earth Wind & Fire's "September" earlier in the year; she had a very good 1979.
The version on Rhino's Have A Nice Day Vol. 25 (1996) runs about 1.4% too fast, has an unusually hissy fade-out, and has some weirdness at the very end of the fade. There's a digital clone on Simitar's Number Ones: Lovin' Feelings (1998), which also runs too fast.
The version on Time-Life's 2-CD Body Talk Vol. 6 Only You (1996) plays at the proper speed and sounds much more natural on the fade. Use this version, if you can.
