Not to be confused with Kiss' "Calling Dr. Love" (also a 1977 release), this song just missed the top-40 in 1977 (peaking at 41 in BB).

This is a shot in the dark, and thinking the answer is no, but by any chance, is the 7" 45 an edit of the 12"? (Guessing it's probably an edit of the LP.) Unfortunately, only the 12" seems to be available on iTunes.

Doug,
I'll check it later tonight as I have a dub of the 45 and 12" single. I've only heard the LP version once, and I also suspect the LP version was changed to be the 12" version at some point.

From memory though, I'm fairly sure the 45 is a different mix than the 12".

Good news Doug, I recalled wrong because I hear no
difference in the mix between the 45 and 12" version. So
I think YES it can be edited from the 12" version.

The original LP version was about 2 minutes shorter than
the 12" - but it was probably also an edit of the same
Tom Moulton Mix.

I have a very clean mp3 of the 45 version if you need it
for reference. In fact, it sounds like it came from a
CD, but if so it must be an import, and a buddy must have
sent it to me.

The Salsoul / Gold Mind catalog releases for the U.S.
have completely ignored 45 versions, always favoring 12"
mixes and later remixes. I think the only Salsoul 45
versions I've ever heard on CD were from imports.

In fact, I've found for most disco hits - other than pop
top 40 ones - it's difficult or impossible to find 45
versions on CD. It's true that most of them charted on
the Dance/Club charts as 12" singles, but a lot of us
bought 45's at the time. At least Rhino tried...

From what I can tell, it appears you need to make three edits and fade early. One small edit removes about six seconds from about (2:50) to (2:56). A larger edit
removes from about (2:58) to (6:29) of the resulting file. Then you need to chop off the last 25 seconds of the resulting file (from about (3:35) to (4:00) and start the
fade at about (3:28), so that the end result runs about (3:35).
