Just missing the BB top 40 in 1978 (peaking at #42), but a well-versed disc jockey in the Chicago area played this song yesterday straight off his promo 45, but played the long side (which runs (6:07)) rather than the short side, which runs (3:57).

Oddly enough, the LP version runs (5:44).

Anyone know if the (3:57) version can be extracted from the (5:44) version?

Doug, non-top 40 song analysis rates are triple the norm, so be prepared to pay up. :)

I only have the 12-inch promo single (WB PRO-A-755) for this one, but it contains the same (3:57) and (6:07)-listed lengths as the promo 45. To replicate the 3:57-listed (4:00 actual) "short version" from CD:

1. The easiest way to edit the fade-in accurately is to go to approximately the 1:06 mark at the very beginning of the first drumbeat, then fade in the 6.913-second segment which immediately precedes it. Most of the first half of the fade-in should be barely audible, with the level rising more rapidly from there to the beginning of that first drumbeat. Delete the opening 59 or so seconds preceding the starting point of your new fade-in.

2. Delete the 13.562-second segment between 2:38.538 and 2:52.1, beginning (and ending) with the second of two consecutive drumbeats.

3. Fade for 16.7 seconds from 3:43.1 to 3:59.8. Think sawfish, with a long, very low-level finish to the exponential fade.

4. Slow down file by 0.3 second to a run time of 4:00.1

Thank you, sir. Have the CD coming from a local library later this week to give it a shot.
