Hopefully someone can unconfuse me. On the Skyline site, there's an MP3 that claims to be the single version of Andy Gibb's "I Just Want To Be Your Everything." I've also heard an edited version on the radio. However, the radio version (which I am assuming came from TM Century) has a cymbal crash where the edit in the intro is, while the MP3 on the Skyline site does not.

Could I infer from all this that TM Century made another incorrect edit to simulate the 45 version, or is the one on Skyline wrong?

Signed,

Confused near Chicago

The single has a cymbal crash in the first edit of the intro. Counting in 4/4 time, it goes like: (drum intro) dit-dit-dit-crash 2,3,4, crash, 2,3,4, boom dit-dit-dit-dit...dit-dit-dit...dit-dit-dummmmm...tit-tit-ti t-tit-"For so long...you and me..." Get it?

Looks like TM made a goof.

If that's the case, then TMC actually got it right--it's the Skyline edit that's missing the cymbal crash in the edit.

Do you happen to have the edit at your disposal?

So is the cymbal crash the only difference between the 45 and LP version?

If I understand correctly, the cymbal crash is on the LP version... it's just TM Century edited it out by mistake.

The 45 also fades early, besides the edited intro.

I did a good edit of it a few months ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Skyline's version would be correct...they always compare their files to the original 45s where available...

Perhaps I should provide a sample of the single edit...

Right. Tom Daley goofed. Yes, I have the 45 edit, AND an alternate remixed version with an extra vocal piece.

The 45 is faded a tad earlier than the LP.

Well, this time they may be wrong. I don't have an account with Skyline yet, but it sounds like it's wrong.

Other way around. The TM Century version includes the cymbal crash--the Skyline version omits.

Here's a crazier but better way to try to explain it. The LP version has three bars before the "dit-dit-dit-dit, dit-dit-dit-dit, dit-da-dum." The Skyline version keeps bars 1 and 2 and makes the edit just before the "dit-dit-dit-dit" sequence. The radio version (again, assuming it's TM Century) keeps 1 and 3 and edits out 2 (picking up with the cymbal crash right before 3). One of the versions may be right--it's also possible that neither version edited the 45 correctly.

Got it? Good--I have a headache. :-)

And with Ed sending the mailing list the vinyl 45, that confirms what Grant said. The Skyline version is not the correct edit.

Nice work, folks!

I also don't (yet) have a Skyline account, but I will soon enough. I'm also not familiar enough with this song to discern the different versions. If Skyline does in fact have it wrong, I'd be shocked unless it was a member-edited upload that Tom Daly and crew didn't double check.

Get shocked. We should ask Tom where that edit came from.

I emailed Tom a link to this topic, he has yet to respond to my email, so I'll assume he never received it, which is understandable since he's in the middle of moving.

Tom is usually pretty good about getting things right, so maybe he knows it's not the actual 45 version. But, remember I mentioned that there IS an altrernative mix of the song out there on CD, and has been around for decades.

John and I were discussing this tune. I'm bumping for his reference.

Thanks, Doug...

I was referencing the incorrect edit intially, but now that the edit is in the right spot in the intro, I made the fade from approx. 3:22.5 - 3:30.
