A 1972 classic that was not released as a single in the US until 1977, according to Discogs the 45 runs (3:58), a far cry from the (5:04) full version.
So the usual question--can the 45 be extracted from the LP (either via edit or by fading way early)?
Thx! I'll hang up and listen for my answer. Long-time caller, first-time listener. :)

Doug, from my radio and collector experiences over the years, this
particular song has been both requested/brought to my attention *far*
more often than the typical #104 Bubbling Under track has, so there's no
question in my mind that a bit of a cult following for this track had
occurred somewhere along the line.
Some years back, I was able to locate a Hi 2324 long/short promo 45 for
it. Both sides of my copy were clearly played on-air, and it is far from a
pristine copy, but the good news is that neither side skipped during
today's dubbing/MBF send to you, which means you can both determine
where the edits are and apply them against your full version on CD. I trust
you'll follow up here with your findings.
And while I still have my promo 45 pulled, I might as well go ahead and
document its full details here:
-Al Green - Love And Happiness (Hi 2324 mono short side promo 45;
listed time 3:20; actual time 3:24; handwritten deadwax of "HI-2952 X").
-Al Green - Love And Happiness (Hi 2324 stereo long side promo 45;
listed time 3:58; actual time 4:01; handwritten deadwax of "ZHI-2952").

Well, it took me long enough (sorry, had a few big non-music related projects that took more of my time than I expected).
With some assistance from John G., I was able to figure out the edits. The long edit removes the (2:37.62)-(3:41.55) section of the full-length version.
From the long edit, remove the section from (2:30.38) to (3:07.45) to create the short edit. It didn't sound to me like there was any significant mono
(short)/stereo (long) difference but your mileage may vary (that's not a strength of mine).
John did warn me that most of the CD versions have noise reduction at the beginning and the end, and that the Right Stuff Greatest Hits version
fades about 5 seconds early. While the edits don't affect that aspect, if you want it perfect you probably need to seek out a pristine LP copy.

The 45 version of "Love And Happiness" has finally been released on the 3-CD Al Green set, The Hi Records Singles Collection. Hi Records 45s continued to be mono until at least 1975 and, although the title suggests these are all the single mixes, of the Top 40 hits only "Tired Of Being Alone", "Let's Stay Together", and "Full Of Fire" are mono. I do really like the sound quality of this set.

As Paul mentioned a month ago the single edit appears on this recent three disc set (run time is 4:01).
