Although it only went to #50 on the Billboard Hot 100, this song went to #1 on the R&B charts and is important to another top 40 hit (Coolio's version).
According to Discogs, there were three versions released: the 6:10 length which is the LP or 12" version, the 4:07 version which is the 7" single and promo version, and the 4:25 version which was the flip side of the "Vault Records" 12" release.
I have the 6:10 version, a 4:02 version which I assume matches the 4:07 version and is an edit of the 6:10 version, and a 4:16 version which is edited differently than the 4:02 version but is still from the 6:10 version.
Additionally, the official video on YouTube is 3:47 and is also an edit of the 6:10 version and takes out the rap near the end.
I'm wondering if anyone can confirm from vinyl what the commercial single and radio / promo single lengths were, and where the edits were.
It's a shame this song didn't do better than it did; the groove is timeless!

Do you know which CDs have the 7" single version, if any?

I just discovered the 4:07 version I had and one of the
4:16 versions from Solid Gold Soul do not match a
commercial 45 dub, running 4:07, I found on YouTube. It
appears the shorter versions (I presume all) have been
edited incorrectly and are 'neithers."
Here's a copy of the 45 if anyone wants to re-edit the
LP version into a correct 45 version.
