I see that this great #20 charter only shows up on 3
CD's domestically. Twice in stereo, and those two
stereo copies have a 5 second difference in their
times.
Are these two stereo versions disc dubs?
My stereo promotional 45, listed as A&M 841-S, has a
listed time of (2:41) but an actual time of (2:42). My
promo 45 has the finger snaps on the intro in the right
channel, while the mp3 I have claiming to be off of
More Nuggets (unfortunately I don't have this song on
CD to verify) has the finger snap intro in mono, and
that intro is a different mix than when I sum the intro
of my promo 45 to mono...
After the intro, when the song switches to full stereo,
almost the entire rest of the song up until about the
last 10 to 15 seconds stay 100% in sync with my stereo
promo 45. Then at the very end it gets quite out of
sync, and I'm not sure why that would have happened, if
it was a disc dub. For a tape dub to stay completely in
sync would be very strange, as well.

Tom,
I have the CD "More Nuggets" so I can verify that's where
your MP3 came from. I can also tell you it's from tape,
not vinyl.
This CD was made in 1987. They had no inexpensive way to
remove surface noise back then. There was "CEDAR" which
was new, but very expensive and left an artifact that is
easy to hear. Rhino never used it.
I can also tell you the stereo mix I had on vinyl V/A
comp back then had the same mono intro then turning to
stereo, so I always assumed the original LP was mixed
that way. Now I'm curious as to what was actually on the
stereo LP.
If it did start out with a stereo intro my only theory
would be the stereo master intro may have been damaged at
some point and this was the fix.
As for the 45 and the CD to be in sync - I've had that
happen but it is indeed very rare!
