Looking for information about a specific version of
this song. Discogs shows a US 12", 12" Promo, Cassette
Single and Promo CD Single with a version running
5:10. This version is labelled "Extended Vocal" on the
Promo CD Single. Does anyone here have any of those
configurations of the single and can confirm if this
version is an edit or remix (or both)? And if it's
only an edit, would anyone know the edit points? Thank
you for any help.
Also, I'd just like to put in my two cents and say
that I always thought that this was a beautiful song
and was extremely disappointed when it barely squeaked
in to the Top 40 at #40 for one week in 1988. Total
injustice, I tell ya! =-)

I have the promo CD, but it no longer plays. This is one of the "Made by Discovery Systems Inc." discs that has oxidized over the years. I reached out to another collector who has a copy to see if his still plays.

Has anyone compiled a list of these CD titles that fail over time? I'm
curious if I have any in my collection and need to copy them ASAP!

There's an incomplete list in the Jane Child thread. If you know of
others, I am happy to update the list.

Thanks to a fellow collector, I can confirm that the Extended Vocal is a straightforward edit of the LP version. Here's how you do it (all times reference the full LP version):
1. Remove 0:21 to 0:35 (edit is on the fourth beat in the measure).
2. Remove 2:25 to 2:39 (edit is on the tambourine hit)
3. Remove 2:46 to 3:13 (edit is on the kick drum, which is the first beat of the measure)
***4. Remove 5:04 to 5:17 (edit is on the beat with the word "me")
5. Remove 6:13 to 6:46 (edit is on the beat with the vocal "I will...")
Your file should be just under 5:14.
***If you save your work up to this step, you can also create the 45 version from the LP version. Instead of creating the edit at step 4 above, remove everything from 5:18 of LP version to the end (edit just before the saxophone). Create a fade out from 4:10 to 4:24 of the resulting edit.
