Issued as the B-side of the pop Top 10 hit “I Could Never Take the
Place of Your Man”, “Hot Thing” reached #14 Billboard R&B. The
single “edit” used on the 45 cannot be exactly recreated from the LP
version but has finally been issued on CD and digital
download/streaming via the new Prince ‘Sign o’ the Times’ Deluxe and
Super Deluxe Editions worldwide.

Great song. That entire album is a classic.

Agreed! Been jamming to some of the single versions and vault
tracks while working around the place this morning.

"Hot Thing" appears to be the real single edit on the
new "Sign O' the Times" box, but the "Housequake" 7-inch
edit sounds to my ears to be a digital recreation. It
fades a hair later than the 45 dub I got from Ed, and I
also hear no tape hiss at the tail end of the fade at
all, which I do hear on "Hot Thing."
