I have a Sony music compilation CD from 2000 called "Naughty Platinum Rock." It has "Lick It Up" by Kiss running 3:44 (3:43 once silence is deleted).
My problem is, I can't find a single release from 1983 that suggests there was ever a 3:43 length version. Every label, from the LP to the CD to the 7" vinyl to the 12" promo to the 7" DJ single all list a time somewhere between about 3:56 and 4:01. I can't find anything on Discogs to match, and I can't find anything on YouTube to match.
Does anybody know if there was ever an official release in 1983 that faded about 15 seconds early, or was this Sony just trying to squeeze as many songs as possible onto the compilation CD?
Lick It Up hit the top 40... in the UK, Switzerland, and Canada. In the United States, it stalled out at #66.
FUN FACT: Columbia House Records released 1983's "Lick It Up" album on 8-track tape. To make it fit, there were two songs they had to fade out, change tracks, and fade back in. :-)
