A hot 100 hit in 1997, does anyone have information on the CD promo or commercial single in the US it was released on that year? I cant find anything on discogs. Thanks!

This song was never released on a promo CD single or any single format at all in the US. It was an airplay only hit that stations played either from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack or from a promo V/A comp such as HitDisc.

There is a European 1-track CD single, but that was the only single format anywhere in the world where it was released as a lead track. https://www.discogs.com/Garbage-1-Crush/release/412238. It looks like the song started off as a B-side on a handful of singles for the song "Vow" in 1995 and was added as a bonus track to Japanese versions of the album.

The "hit" version is the Nellee Hooper Remix, which is also the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack version. The 1-track CD single referenced above plays the remix although it is not clearly noted as such on the disc.

The original version and hit version are easily distinguishable from one another, as the original b-side mix has more of a 'Nine Inch Nails'-type beat and is lacking the more atmospheric percussion loops and "moaning" in the
background throughout.

Great song, though.

The Nellee Hooper Mix is available on the Super Deluxe
Version of Garbage. It's available for purchase
online.

Since this was before Dec 5, 1998 how could it have possibly charted on the Hot 100 without a released single?

According to my Billboard book, it charted as an "album
cut", peaking at No. 29 airplay, therefore not charting
on the Hot 100 but only on the Hot 100 Airplay chart.

Hey guys, I was just looking into this at billboard.com and Wikipedia. I'm not finding a Hot 100 peak for this song, but it charted at #29 on the "Radio Songs" chart, which — if I understand
correctly — was known as the Hot 100 Airplay chart when this song would have charted in 1996-97.
