I notice that Pat recently reviewed a new Air Supply reissue CD called Love Songs (Arista/Legacy 66934)and am wondering if this disc finally contains the 45 version of the duo's 1981 smash "Every Woman in the World"? The most distinct difference between the 45 and LP version is the lead guitar. I believe a different lead guitar was used altogether on the 45... it's mixed hotter and has more of a piercing, in-your-face tonal quality. I've always liked this version the best, but for some reason it has never appeared on a domestic CD despite the plethera of Air Supply compilation titles flooding the market in recent years. I'm hoping the 45 version might be on Love Songs, but my gut tells me we get the LP version once again. Can Pat or anyone else tell me which is it?

Yes Todd, the new "Love songs" cd by Air Supply features the LP version of "Every Woman In The World" as do all other domestic cd's.

This is excellent news! Can you give the label and catalog # of this Australian import?

I tried doing my own edit of this song by taking a cleaned-up 45 I made, and splicing the intro, instrumental section before verse 2, and the instrumental bridge - taking those sections from the 45 and the rest of the song from the CD. Of course, this only approximates the single version -- the loud buzzy electric guitars in all the instrumental sections can be heard properly -- but the other sections (which I took from CD) may not actually be the single mix. Does anyone know if the guitars in those sections were different? I really couldn't tell any difference when I A-B'd the 45 with the CDs (other than the first sung note had the "hangover note" from the crunchy electric guitars.)

Wow, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one looking for the 45 version of "Every Woman in the World"!

To EdisonLite: As far as I can tell, besides the different lead guitar during the instrumental passages, the 45 version and LP version are otherwise the same mix.

EdTop40, there's a UK version of this very CD -- same cover and same songs in the same order. Do you know if the UK version also has the single mix? Are you certain the CD you sold on ebay was Australian and not UK?

EdisonLite:

I have the UK version of this CD on catalog #260 757 and it does indeed have the single mix of "Every Woman in the World". The disc also contains the hard-to-find 45 version of "Sweet Dreams". My only complaint about this CD is that the sound quality is a little bit flat for my taste, but you can run it through an equalizer to give it a little more punch.

Is the "Very Best Of" the "Making Love - The Very Best Of" CD or
"Now And Forever - The Very Best Of" CD?

Paul:

I have the 45 version on the Making Love - The Very Best of CD. It is a UK import and the catalog number is Arista 260 757.

Old thread, but I'm revisiting my Air Supply stuff.

The 45 is indeed mixed differently than the LP version. No edit instructions here.

However, I discovered that I have the 45 version on a 5-CD set called Pop Complete (EMI Music Group Australasia 7243 4 98604 2 1, released 1999). The track runs 3:20.

Pop Complete also has the 45 version of Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", so it's already paid for itself - I recommend it.

my commercial 45 issued as arista 0564 states a run time of 3:25 but actually runs 3:20

I inquired about the actual and printed 45 run time for "Every Woman in the World" in another thread, so thanks for furnishing the details here, Ed!

It appears there may be two different 45 pressings of Air Supply's "Every Woman in the World". Abagon reports his commercial 45 copy (AristaAS 0564) has an actual run time of 3:23. (The printed record label time is 3:25 just like on Ed's copy.) The matrix number printed on Abagon's commercial 45 is: AS0-564-SA cp-2.
