"Angel Eyes" was re-recorded for the single release in 1989. The original 1988 album version was 5:19 (or at least that's the listed length), and the promo CD of the "newly recorded version" has the "Long Version" (4:40) and the "Single Version" (4:17) on it (listed lengths).

My BMG Direct Marketing (D100810) copy of the "See The Light" CD album (re-released after the song became a hit) has the new 45 version of "Angel Eyes" on it, rather than the album version or long version. Track length is 4:23; listed and actual length is 4:20.

And isn't it The Jeff Healey Band? The database entry omits the "The".

Great catch, VWestlife!

I've done a little digging, and yes it was indeed re-recorded for single
release (I had no idea). The original LP has a 5:19 version as you state - it
can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-guUHBkYh3s.
Sounds similar, but different. And as per the promo CD, the (4:40) remake
was faded early for the 45 (4:17 listed, 4:20 actual).

Since in the database, the CD "See The Light" is indicated to feature the
4:40 version, this contradicts your info, unless of course, which might very
well be the case, some CDs have the 4:40 while others have the 4:20. Odd
that no database CDs feature the 5:19 original recording, yet I found a "See
The Light" CD that does (so are there three versions of the CD?).

Needs further investigation and database update.

That is indeed interesting, and a cool find.

I never knew anyone actually had a Jeff Healey Band LP, as that single version was on just about every single VA collection made.

I wonder if there are any other worthy tracks on the LP? Granted, this single was also played to death on every pop and AC station 'round here back then.

Yeah, the Jeff Healey Band 'See The Light' CD had been
around for quite a while; there were two AOR-played
emphasis tracks before "Angel Eyes" ("Confidence Man" &
"See The Light").

I remember when "Angel Eyes" started to get AOR play (a
couple of months before being worked to CHR) I thought it
was a great song and found it was co-written by Fred
Koller who performed a lot (and possibly lived for a
time) in nearby Saratoga Springs. I picked up the CD and
I did not like the vocal alternate take on the CD so I
got a DAT dub of the promo CD from a radio MD.

I believe the new version is a thorough remix with new
vocal and some additional/different instrumentation as
opposed to a completely different recording, but I have
not A/B'd it...

Here's my CD with the 4:20 version of "Angel Eyes" on it -- notice the font of the time is different than all the other tracks, so it was clearly an after-the-fact change to the album.
