The highly-raucous and out-of-control group Chicago, circa 1988, (or their record label) felt it was necessary to release a second promo 45, with an (AC MIX) on both sides. Some may consider this an oxymoron, but nonetheless, it has a listed time of (3:56), but an actual run time of (3:53). Deadwax 7-27855-ADJ SR1.

Jim,
What does it sound like, compared to the 'regular' mix?
Any obvious differences?
Andy

VERY subtle differences between the two mixes...
I had to put them in the multi-tracker and listen back and forth before I could tell there even was a difference. The regular version, for example, has a guitar over the last line of the first verse (where the drums kick in) and during the chorus. It's not a very prominent guitar, and it's mainly in the right channel, but it's definitely an electric guitar. This guitar is buried in the mix on the "AC Remix."
The guitar continues during the second verse of both mixes, but it's much farther back in the mix on the "AC Remix."

Regarding "I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love", the database currently states the following comment:
(dj copies of this 45 run (3:53) which is the LP version and (3:53) which is an "AC mix")
According to abagon, the actual and printed commercial 45 run time is 3:54. Assuming this is the same version as the "non-AC Mix" appearing on some DJ 45 copies, it might be best to slightly revise the database comment to read something like:
(dj copies of this 45 run (3:53) which is the 45 and LP version and (3:53) which is an "AC mix"; commercial copies run (3:54)
By the way, Jim, I get a kick out of the mild sarcasm in your initial post!

Todd, I am finally and thankfully just about all caught up on my recent non-Board "outside projects", FYI, am currently catching up with reading/researching the many new topics posted from the last 2 months or so, and I will be able to add info to at least a dozen of them in the next few days. Looking forward to finally getting back into the mix!

The late 80's saw a few of those discs that featured different mixes.
I have this 45 promo too and I can't tell the difference.
Can you imagine a CHR playing those ballads from Chicago today?
"Look Away" was mentioned in an earlier thread.
It had the same mix variation.
I recently found a similar disc from Geffen that included 4 versions of Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time."
I don't have it here with me to be more specific.

Fantastic, Jim! We've missed your valuable insight on this board, my friend, and look forward to your "full-time" return!

Do we know if the AC mix is on any of the CDs in the database (or CDs anywhere else)?

my commercial 45 issued as reprise 27855 states a run time of 3:54 and does indeed run that length....the cd "very best of" contains the correct version but the channels are switched....thanks to john for switching them to match the 45 version......THANKS JOHN!!
