Pat:
Thanks to help from Ed and Jim, we've uncovered the following information regarding Boston's "We're Ready" which should probably be updated in the database:
DJ copies of this 45 run (4:10) and (3:47), not (4:14) and (3:49) as stated on the record label; commercial copies run (4:10), not (4:14) as stated on the record label

Since the database doesn't label the current CDs as "LP version" or "LP length," does anyone know what the difference is, given that the 45 is :12 longer than any CD version?

i believe they're the same version except that on the full length cd, they merge that song into the following song, while the 45 has a very slow gradual fade out for the last 0:20.....i know one or two cd's have the correct 45 version...would you like a copy?

Which CDs have the extended 45 fade? All the CDs listed in the database have the LP length.

I also think that both the 45 and the LP are the same. However this LP track crosses over the next track "The Launch" and the previous track "Amanda". It might that "We're Ready" actually is running till "4:10" although it's impossible for us to listen to it because of overlap. I don't have some compilation CDs including this song. I suppose the "We're Ready" intro is including the "Amanda's ending tone" if their CDs used "Third Stage" source.

After looking into this situation further, I hear cymbal taps preceding the first guitar note on the introduction on the LP version while these taps are missing on the 45 version so the database has been updated to indicate that all appearances on cd so far are either the LP version (which tracks into the next selection) or the LP version faded before it could track into the next selection.

Soo, if you have the 4:09 version, edit out the beginning cymbal taps, you have the 45 version?

The Best of the '80s CD appears to be identical to Disc 1 of the Ultimate Power of Supergroups compilation, which is a 2-disc set.

my commercial 45 issued as mca 52985 contains a non described version on the A-side, with a listed running time of 4:14 but actually runs 4:09 and is identical to the version from the madacy cd
Ultimate Power of Supergroups
this info should be added to the db......both the commercial 45 and this version have NO cymbal taps before the guitar riff kicks in....

RADIO FOLK: did radio play the 4:10 version (which I assume is the "no-crossfade" version of the LP track), or the 3:47 version... and if they played the 3:47 version, was it an edit or a remix... and if it was an edit can you tell me the edit points?
...and does it bother you when I ask all these questions in one, run-on sentence? ;-)
(Thanks!)

My MCA 52985 (b/w "The Launch") lists a 4:14 run time and does indeed run that length (although it's not especially easy to determine with that absurdly long fade-out; you really need to crank your volume to hear when it finally fades out to zero).
My 45 also has the hi-hat intro before the guitar comes in.
The matrix number is: MC-22222-E MD2.
The label is a variant from the one posted above. It is identical to the one at 45cat here.

My stock copy matches what Plastic Steel has, including the deadwax info. It does contain cymbal taps before the first guitar note. Good catch on that one! Pat, it looks like you'll need to amend the database entry again, since some copies contain the hi-hat intro.

I also have a promo 45 dub, courtesy of Jim, and both sides of his promo 45 have the hi-hat taps before the first guitar note. For those curious about the promo 45 edit, there is only one edit and a slightly early fade. The edit removes 3:30 to 3:37 of the commercial 45 version, and it occurs on the second to last kick drum. The song then fades to the 3:48 mark (after you've made the edit). Goes like this with the "/" indicating the edit:
"We're ready now, oooo-oooo/oooooooooooooo"

Can you describe how to recreate the promo 45 fade,
Aaron? Is it a swordfish fade or other type? ;)
