a very strange situation here.........the cassingle issued as motown 2257 says it contains the "lp version" but it runs 4:04 while the lp version from the cd "II" runs 3:56......it just has a longer fade out than the full cd version....this distinction should be made in the db.....although the cassingles face states the run time as 4:07 it actually runs 4:04....a real screw up for one of the biggest singles of ALL time........

Thanks for the info, Ed. I sure am glad I bought all those CD singles back in the day.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "screw up." Didn't the single come out before the full-length album? They may have planned for the LP version to run (4:04), but at the last minute the producer faded it earlier. Those types of things happen all the time...on purpose.

I have two different promo CD singles, one of which I obtained just recently.
374631216-2
1. Pop Edit (3:49 listed & actual)
2. LP Version (4:07 listed & actual)
3. Instrumental (5:39 listed)
4. A Capella (4:49 listed)
The "Pop Edit" is just an early fade of the LP length.
374631248-2 (REMIXES)
1. Sensual Version (4:27)
2. Sexy Version (4:33)
3. "I Wanna Make Love To You" Version (4:08)
4. LP Version (4:07 listed; 3:56 actual)
5. Sensual Instrumental (4:47)
6. Sexy TV Version (4:46)
7. "I Wanna Make Love To You" Instrumental (4:50)
Times for the above "remixes" CD are listed only. Other than the LP version on track 4, these remixes contain completely re-recorded vocals.

If you're looking to recreate the pop edit, here is a
guide.
Fade from 3:39-3:49.
