Just picked up the single CD "The Very Best Of The Doors" remastered 2007 Rhino. On listening to "Touch Me", it is not the usual crappy LP mix, nor the 45 mix (doh...but it's close). It appears to be the quad mix, with the "stronger than dirt" at the end. It DOES sound great though. Going thru the others on the CD now...

I understand all their LPs have been remastered. "Love Her Madly" is a revelation, as are the others - the songs have never sounded this good! This is how a remaster should sound.

So, David, is this 40th Anniversary "Very Best of" an import? I don't see it listed on any websites, including Rhino's.

David,

I'm kind of confused. You called this a single disc. But the link that you gave gives a track listing as if it's a 3 CD set (actually, 2 CDs + 1 DVD), and yet in another spot on the page, it also says it's a single disc. How does the track listing for the 2 CDs in their set (in the link) compare to the track listing of your one CD?

Also, can you describe how "Touch Me" is closer to the single mix in this alternate version? I may want to get this for "Touch Me" but only if I know it's really close to the single mix (and if it's not a 3CD set).

Yeah, I was confused as well when I went to amazon. Apparantly, there's the single disc I have (which is the one pictured on the link I gave - the sticker gives that away), a double disc, and three-disc package which includes a DVD. Three configurations! amazon.ca is confused by it all too! The 3-disc CAN'T be $14.96.

My single disc contains:

1. Break on Through (To the Other Side)
2. Light My Fire
3. Love Me Two Times
4. Hello, I Love You
5. People Are Strange
6. Strange Days
7. Riders on the Storm
8. L.A. Woman
9. Touch Me
10. Roadhouse Blues
11. Peace Frog
12. Love Street
13. Crystal Ship
14. Soul Kitchen
15. Lover He Madly
16. Back Door Man
17. Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)
18. Moonlight Days
19. Unknown Soldier
20. The End [Apocalypse Now edit]

They all sound fantastic, some are remixed, some run longer.

As for "Touch Me", drums, vocal and bass are center, one keyboard is left the other right (then another comes in center later), horns right, strings left. I have what I believe to be a quad mix and the two sound very similar. This new issue is not exactly as the 45, and of course it contains the "stronger than dirt" at the end.

Would you like an MP3 of it?

But this is the only CD version that contains the stronger than dirt line, right?

All CDs contain the "stronger than dirt" line (fairly low in the mix). Only the 45 omits that line.
