Pat, I believe the stereo versions of this are missing the handclaps. I can't hear them in the stereo version at all (not even buried) but they are in the mono version I have (on the Ace import CD The Golden Age Of American Rock'n'Roll Vol. 4). My stereo versions from the T-L CDs.
So, would the stereo version be a stereo LP version (i.e., out approx the same year), or a later "undubbed" version? Is the 45 with the handclapss? Anyone know when the stereo version first appeared? Database will need an update when we learn the answer.

I have a mid-70s CBS album with that track and I can't hear the handclaps, either. The original mono mix has them very low, but they're there along with the finger snaps. Must have been a last-minute addition and the person making the stereo mix wasn't aware of it. Is the multi still in existence????

I can answer the question of does the original 45 have the handclaps and the answer is yes. I do not have the original vinyl LP in stereo or mono for that matter.

Being a recording from 1957 i was surprised it even existed at all in stereo, let alone a 3-track mix. I don't know when the stereo mix was first released but i doubt it was any time around when the single was out....my reissue 45 is also mono and has the handclaps (which is why i kept it, i wouldnt have kept it if it sounded like the stereo version but was mono). So, the stereo version would likely be an "undubbed stereo mix missing handclap overdubs" or something. The handclaps are definitely there in my mono reissue 45 and definitely noticable and not low in the mix. The song was probably cut to 3-track as you hear the stereo mix, and the handclaps were likely overdubbed live to mono.

Reviving a 12-year-old thread.
In the stereo, I notice a "yeah" at 2:10 that is missing from the
mono. A splice, perhaps?
I think the first stereo for this may have been on 1961 LP "You Can
Have Her".

I believe that to be true. Epic also issued the cuts from
the album on a set of jukebox 33 rpm singles. My stereo
single for Don't Let Go matches the common stereo mix
without the handclaps.
