Pat:
I pulled out my Rick Nelson Legacy box set (Legacy 29521), which I purchased at Tower Records several years ago, and gave "Lonesome Town" several listens on my Sony headphones. To my ears, the song is in narrow stereo, though stereo nonetheless. Nelson's lead vocal is firmly in the center of the sound stage, while the background vocals are panned more toward the left channel and the guitar is panned slightly to the right.
To make sure my ears weren't deceiving me, I extracted "Lonesome Town" from the CD and loaded it onto my Adobe Audition software to observe the song's audio soundwave patterns. It turns out the left and right channels have distinctly different wave patterns. If the song was in mono, the wave patterns would be identical in both channels. Therefore, I would have to agree with Henri that "Lonesome Town", as it appears on Disc 1, Track 15 of my Rick Nelson Legacy box set, is a stereo recording.
