Can anyone explain the difference between the 45 mix and the LP mix for Donna Summer's "I Feel Love." Has the 45 mix surfaced on CD outside of the US? All database CDs are either the DJ edit or the LP mix.

Yeah, I've always wondered what the difference is myself.

I just compared the 45 to the "LP length & mix" version on the Donna Summer Anthology (as indicated in the database) and hear absolutely no differences in the mix. The only differences are a later fade-in and earlier fade-out on the 45, resulting in the difference in the length between the 45 and LP versions.
If there is a mix difference it must be EXTREMELY subtle and I don't think it would qualify for a notation in the database.

Originally Casbablanca NB 884 was issued as "Can't We Just Sit Down (and talk it over) (A Side) and "I Feel Love" (B Side) I have a DJ copy which is stereo both sides and has I Feel Love listed right on the label as "B" side. The length on this DJ 45? On the label it lists 5:40, which would bring it in line with many of the releases on CD. I don't know what they did with the stock at this point of the release history. If it had the correct time or not.
I also have a Casablanca NB 884 DJ which is mono/stereo "Cant We Just Sit Down". 3:42 listed on the mono side and 3:56 listed on the stereo side. They might have made a mono edit at this point and issued this second promo for "Can't We Just Sit Down".
I believe at this point I Feel Love started breaking in the clubs so they flipped it over.
So then they issued "I Feel Love" mono/stereo NB 884 that lists both sides as the A side, with a label time of 3:42. (I have a copy of this one also)
So, there could be more than one stock 45 version, I don't know.
I will try to listen to these versions and see if I can detect any differences on the copies I have.
Bill

My stock 45 of "I Feel Love" has a listed time of 5:38.
There was that DJ edit they played on radio around here.

I have finally had time to go back and listen to "I Feel Love" and compare the 45 to the LP version and I do not hear any mix differences this time around at all. You can create the 45 version (5:38) from the LP version (5:52) by fading in :09 into the LP intro and fading out :05 sooner than the LP outro. The way I have treated this situation previously, I have called this enough of a distinction to warrant a 45 version vs LP version notation and I know that some agree with me on this notation and others disagree but I have gone ahead and changed the database entries to read either 45 version or LP version.

Oh no not another case of there being 2 different 45 pressings! Can you time it out for us and pass along pertinent information such as the matrix number and catalog number?
