Pat:

Regarding "Desire" by Andy Gibb, the 10th edition says the "actual 45 time is (3:59) not (3:36) as stated on the record label" and shows all CD appearances with the comment: (LP length). I have the commercial 45 which states a time of 4:24 on the record label but actually runs 4:27, which is approximately the same run time as on all CDs. Edtop40 sent me an mp3 of his commercial 45 and it too runs 4:27.

I'm wondering if the 45 time you discuss in the book for "Desire" is a DJ edit copy? If so, then all "LP length" comments will need to be removed since the 45 and LP are essentially the same length.

Yes Todd as it turns out I did time the dj 45 which does run (4:00). I will change the comments in my database to reflect this.

For those who want the DJ length on CD, you can easily create it by starting your fade at 3:42 and ending it at 4:00. The promo 45 does not contain any edits.

My self-titled "best of" album has a bad tape dropout on "Desire." The dropout occurs just after the 1:00 mark in the right channel. The V/A CDs "Body Talk - Romantic Moments" and "Sounds of the Seventies - '70s Dance Party" both have the dropout, too.

Do any CDs have the song without the dropout?

Aaron - FYI: Body Talk - Romantic Moments is
digitally identical to Andy Gibb (1991), and
Seventies Dance Party 1979-1981 is a differently
EQ'd digital clone of Andy Gibb. Don't know if the
hard-to-find Andy Gibb full album CDs have the dropout or
not, though.

In addition to the Andy Gibb self-titled CD (Polydor 511585) which Aaron has covered, I have Andy "Desire" on the following CDs and the bad dropout in the right channel from 1:01-1:02 can be heard on each of them:

Class Reunion 1980 (Rebound 314520318)
#1 Radio Hits 1980 - Only Rock 'n Roll - 1984 (JCI 3170)
#1 Radio Hits of the 80's (Polygram Special Markets 314520457)

A while back, Ed sent me an mp3 copy of his "Desire" commercial 45 and there is no dropout present. Therefore, it should probably be noted in the database which CDs contain the right channel dropout at the 1:01-1:02 mark.
