Both my commercial 45, and the "short version" of my promo 45 have a listed time of (3:35) and an actual time of (3:36). However, the "long version" of my promo 45 has both a listed and actual time of (4:23).

Has anyone found this song on an import CD? I heard the long version played tonight on the Sirius XM radio 70s channel.

Out of curiosity, Ed, what is the title of the import disc you have containing Chanson's "Don't Hold Back"?

I have this song in a UK compilation series from the Knight record label (I guess it's from the early 90s). The name is: The soul years 1978 (double CD in "fat" plastic case).

Great news for fans of this late '70s r&b/disco group: Next week (Wednesday the 28th), the U.K.-based Funky Town Grooves label will be re-issuing BOTH of Chanson's albums on CD - 1978's Chanson and 1979's Together We Stand. Both are expanded editions of the original albums, and in the case of their 1978 self-titled debut, that includes the 7" version of their top 40 hit, "Don't Hold Back" (in addition to the LP version - which, BTW, has a length that matches the "long version" found on jimct's promo 45, as described above). As a huge fan/collector of '70s & '80s r&b, I know this is the first time either of Chanson's albums has seen a legitimate release on CD anywhere in the world, although I've had an import "gray area" CD of their first album for several years now (and w/o any bonus tracks!)...
Some of FTG's CDs do actually get pressed here in the U.S., although I don't yet know if that will be the case w/ these Chanson re-issues - but if they do turn out to be U.S. pressings, this would of course mark the U.S. CD debut of "Don't Hold Back", and thus Pat will need to add it to the database. :-) But even if these wind up being U.K. pressings, they'll be well worth picking up! I've been buying directly from FTG for years now (both through their web site and on eBay), and they're a great label - always quick, friendly service, and they re-issue a LOT of great stuff (if you're into '70s & '80s r&b, that is). My only complaint is that many of their re-issues have very limited pressings, and thus they tend to go out-of-print within a year, so you need to buy quickly - or else pay inflated prices on the secondary market later on. Anyway, here are the links, if you wish to pre-order either one: Chanson - "Chanson" (w/ "Don't Hold Back") & Chanson - "Together We Stand"

Thanks for the heads up on this release. I hope that Funky Town Grooves does include the correct 45 edit of "Don't Hold Back." You will recall they missed the mark on "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" by GQ (they used the same incorrect edit everybody else has issued prior). More recently, they reissued an expanded edition of the Imagination LP by Gladys Knight & the Pips which included several bonus tracks. The track labeled 45 version of "Midnight Train To Georgia" was not the correct edit either. I can't recall any others off the top of my head, but they obviously do not care much for accuracy when it comes to these minor details (like many of us on this board do).

The single version on this new release matches the file Ed
sent me two years ago (so if that was the 45 edit then the
Funky Town Grooves folks may have gotten one right this
time).
