There was no commercial 45 for this song at the time, and I always assumed that the "hit" version on my promo CD single was the LP version.
Turns out, not quite.
The promo CD single is EMI DPRO 04569, 1990, with three tracks on it:- LP Mix (printed 3:51; actual 3:58 with outro silence)
- Power Mix (printed 3:50; actual 4:02 with outro silence; has "re-mix By Jon Gass" credit)
- Club Mix (printed 5:47; actual 5:52 with outro silence; has "re-mix By Jon Gass" credit)
Track 1 is not the LP version, but a very minor edit of the LP version that cuts the intro in half.
Here are instructions for creating track 1 from the promo CD, based on the LP version on Rock On 1990:
Keep the first 2-1/2 beats from 0:0.0-0:02.1.
Edit on the bongo hit.
Remove the 8 beats from 0:02.1-0:06.5.
Keep 0:06.5-4:02.7 (end) of the LP version.
The LP version is also on Retro Lunchbox Flashback Flix, and is also on the B-side of the "For Jukeboxes Only!" 45 for the song "Faithful" (EMI Records Group S7-56948).

What are the actual running times without the outro silence?

Pat - Times for the 3 tracks on the DPRO 04569 CD single are, if you cut off the outro silence:
- LP Mix (printed 3:51, actual 3:55)
- Power Mix (printed 3:50, actual 4:00)
- Club Mix (printed 5:47, actual 5:51)

Thanks for passing along this info, crap.
Now, can anyone verify if the cassette single and LP version are identical?

Thanks to some help from Ed, I've finally been able to determine that the cassette single of Go West's "King of Wishful Thinking" features the "LP Mix" and has an actual run time of 4:01 (there is no printed time). Meanwhile, the B-side consists of the "Power Mix" (which also appears on the promo CD single) and has an actual run time of 4:00.
Can anyone confirm hearing the "Power Mix" on the radio? (From time to time, I hear a remixed version of "King of Wishful Thinking" on the airwaves and it makes me wonder if perhaps this is the "Power Mix"?)
