The new Michael Jackson 25th Anniversary version of "Thriller" has been released in 4 different versions, one of which has a sticker on the front that says "includes previously unreleased on cd version of "Billie Jean" 1982 radio edit remix" Epic/Legacy 7233423. I was not aware of a 1982 radio edit remix so I anxiously listened to this track to hear what it would sound like. Much to my surprise I could not detect any edit (or remix for that matter) on this cd so I thought I would throw this out to the chat board detectives to find out what the story is on this mystery edit and remix of "Billie Jean" that does not appear to be included on this cd.

I don't know of any remix/edit for Billie Jean either. The only two versions I've heard are the LP/45 and the 12" Long Version. I'll also be curious to know if someone has heard a remixed version from '82.

I can add some additional information here that I just discovered. There is a hidden bonus track of Billie Jean on this version of Thriller which is indeed a remix of Billie Jean. I am still not certain that this was issued in 1982 as a radio edit remix as stated on the cover.

I believe these stickers on the front of the "Thriller 25" CDs are all misprints and are supposed to say 1992. The remix of Billie Jean was done in the early '90s, not 1982.

There are six "exclusive" editions of "Thriller 25" with different hidden bonus tracks.

Independent Music Stores exclusive: Billie Jean Radio Edit Remix
Best Buy exclusive: Thriller Def Remix
Target exclusive: Billie Jean Club Mix
Circuit City exclusve: Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' Extended Remix
Amazon exclusive: Billie Jean (Underground Mix) and Thriller (original instrumental)

All these remixes were released in the mid-'90s on a very rare promo CD that I don't own, and don't even remember the title of. The remix of "Wanna Be Startin'" was released commercially as a bonus track on one of the "Dangerous" CD maxi singles. All the others are getting their first commercial releases with these store exclusives.

I have not managed to get the Target edition, but I'm quite sure the "Remix Edit" of Billie Jean is simply an edit of the Club Mix on the Target version.

So Sony doesn't have enough money so we have to purchase all of these? Come on...Sony shut down my YouTube account because I posted my edited video versions of "Thriller."

The database currently states the following general comment for Michael Jackson's "Thriller":

(dj copies of this 45 ran (3:56) and (5:11); commercial copies were all (4:04) even though the label stated a running time of (3:56))

Has anyone checked the actual run time of the short DJ 45 side to see if it too might also run 4:04 like the commercial 45 and not 3:56 as stated on the label?

I just clocked out my dj promo 45 listed at 3:56 and it too runs exactly
4:04. In the other thread "Michael Jackson - the 45 versions on CD"
there was much discussion about how this version is named "Remixed
Short Version" on the UK 12" release. Has anyone confirmed if this is
a remix? It sounds exactly like the album version to me minus the
long "sound effects" intro as well as omitting the Vincent Price "rap" at
the end.   Not sure if the term "remix" came from the fact of them
"mixing" out the howling effects in the first few bars of the song as
well along with "mixing" out Vincent Price and just leaving an
instrumental 4 measures.
