My book has the comment "LP Version" next to all CDs with Van Halen's "Dreams." I checked the commercial 45, and the LP Version is the one used. The label states (4:54) and it actually runs that length. I could not hear any differences in the mix.
Unless someone can provide any other information, the comment "LP Version" should probably be removed from the book, since the LP and 45 are the same.

I'm presuming here Pat may have a radio edit of "Dreams" on a DJ 45 copy and has mistaken it for the commercial 45 version.

That is correct Todd and I have now added the comment that the dj copies of "Dreams" ran (4:24) and (4:54) while the commercial copies were all (4:54)

This US commercial 45 version is "REMIX". It is only one point of time that is from 1:08 to 1:10. Eddie's powerful guitar is included. Both of the LP and 45 ran (4:54).

Do both the DJ 45 and stock 45 have the overdub?

The dj copy has the overdub -- I do not have a commercial copy to verify.

my commercial 45 states a run time of 4:54 on the label but actually only runs 4:49 and has "7-28702-re1-a-sr1" etched in the run out groove.....can anyone confirm their commercial 45's run time?

I re-timed my copy and came up with 4:52, but the final couple of seconds are really faint.

Yeah, unfortunately, the only copy I had to work with was the one from Best Of, which fades out a few seconds earlier than 5150. The 45 and LP are the same, except for the section from 1:08 to 1:10. I checked the rest of the song, and the mix is identical between the two. To create the 45 version, I just spliced in that section at 1:08.

The DJ edit just cuts off the opening 30 seconds, correct?

Yes, it removes the synth/guitar intro, but it's an edit of the "remix," which
as noted above has one minor difference: the guitar overdub not found on
the LP version.
