my commercial cassingle issued as sire 22723 contains, on the A-side, the "edit" version, with a listed running time of 4:20 but it actually runs 4:26.....the only place i found the correct cassingle version was on the japanese import singles box set...this info should be added to the db

The correct Edit is also available on the 1989 US "Oh Father" Promo CD, the original, standalone Japanese 3" release from 1989 and the 1996 UK Promo CD. While it was recorded for Like A Prayer and issued in the US, Japan and France during that era, "Oh Father" was also a commercial release from the ballads compilation Something To Remember in several other countries.

The "(Edit)" is also on the commercial 45.

Thanks Tim, but I believe we're only seeking Compact Disc release info. :)

I added it because there have been some threads here noting that, on occasion, the 45 and cassingle versions are different for certain singles. I was merely confirming in this case that they are the same.

:)

I've posted this elsewhere, but the only such case for a Madonna 7" release is the #42 peaking "Bedtime Story".

On 1994's Bedtime Stories release, the end of the LP track "Sanctuary" bleeds onto "Bedtime Story"'s intro, and while the cassette and CD singles feature the album version with a shortened intro (identical to the intro used for the Album Edit version), the 7" single fades up from the end of "Sanctuary", a few seconds even before the track marker on the Bedtime Stories CD.

"Sanctuary" was issued with an early fade as the b-side of BS's follow-up, "Human Nature".
