my commercial cassingle issued as sire 19863 contains, on the A-side, the "single version" with a listed running time of 4:19 and actually does run 4:19......this info should be added to the db.....

Strangely, I've never seen a promo CD single for "Vogue," other than a 2-track disc labeled "The Q Sound Experience." (This disc contains the Q-Sound mixes of both "Vogue" and "Like A Virgin," which were obviously not the airplay hit versions.) The only thing I've ever come across with the hit "Single Version" are retail copies of the maxi CD, which may have been sent to radio instead of producing a unique promo. Can anyone confirm?

I have this recollection, as risky as recollections
are, that the reason I never bought the promo CD for
"Vogue" is because it was identical to the commercial
issue and was, in fact, just the commercial issue sent
to radio stations.

MadonnaRecords.com shows no listing for a US promo for
it, either.

That would make sense, Brian. Jimct only has a retail CD single in a
plain jewel care with no artwork, which I believe is what was sent to his
top 40 station back in 1990.

There are no U.S. promo CD singles listed for "Vogue" in Gregory Cooper's excellent 1998 book, Collectible Compact Disc Price Guide 2. It's pretty thorough, and the Madonna listings take up nearly a full page, making it one of the longest artist entries in the entire book (about 175 CDs shown). He covers everything when it comes to CD singles - domestic & import releases, as well as commercial & promo versions. For "Vogue", he DOES show both versions of the commercial CD maxi-single you noted, on Sire 21513-2: The original pressing, which came in a cardboard slipcase that housed only a plastic tray for the disc itself, and then the later one issued in a standard plastic jewel case. (A third version was eventually released as part of the "cd BACKtrax" series, on Sire 15989-2, which featured the song paired w/ "Keep it Together".) The other listings he shows for "Vogue" are all imports. And yes, he even has "The Q Sound Experience" listed - and two versions, no less (apparently there was one that came "with sleeve", and another with "no sleeve"). He DOES show U.S. promo CD singles (and in several cases, more than one) for every other Madonna title released from 1989-96...

A check of the "Vogue" singles page on Discogs - which currently has 49 listings - fails to show any U.S. promo CD singles, either (and again, practically all of her other single releases do on that site)...

A fan who runs a Madonna collector's site based in Poland seems to have the most detailed & thorough listings of her (worldwide) CD singles out there, and his U.S. CD singles page for "Vogue" doesn't show any promos for it, either (and does greatly overlap the site that Brian W. linked to)...

So w/ Madonna being one of the most collectible acts of the last 30 years, and thus having her discography documented in much more detail than most, I'd likely wager there's about a 95% chance that a U.S. promo CD single DOESN'T exist. As for why - when they apparently do for all of her other singles from 1989 onward - I don't know, but it seems the scenario you've come up w/ was most likely what happened...
