My commercial 45 (Kapp K-526X) of "On Top Of Spaghetti" by Tom Glazer And The Do-Re-Mi Children's Chorus is definitely different from the version found on the K-Tel cd "Funniest Food Songs". The section from 5-9 seconds has more instrumentation on the 45, as opposed to just a guitar on the cd version. There may be more differences, but this one stands out to me.
I know K-Tel often has re-records, although it's stated on the back that this is an original version. I would guess the other K-Tel cd listed in the database is this same version. I don't have either of the 2 Time-Life cd's listed, so I'm not sure if they got it right or not. My 45 runs 2:36.

Jon this is a good catch. All of the cd's in the database are the same "alternate take". Does anyone have the original vinyl LP that can chime in here as I suspect that there may be a 45 vs LP difference for this song. The main difference that I hear is a guitar vs banjo (on the 45) opening instrumentation.

Thanks, Pat. Hopefully someone has this LP and can chime in. I forgot to mention that there is no time listed on my 45. Also, in addition to the banjo on the 45, I hear a bass instrument that I don't hear on the cd version, giving it a "fuller" sound during that opening instrumentation (just after Tom says "Let's sing a little bit...").

I don't own the original LP, but I do own the original 45, confirmed as Kapp
526. As Jon mentioned previously, there is no listed time. However, the
actual time is (2:35), right around what Jon came up with. It has already been
determined that the (2:38) and (2:39) database CD versions are not the
correct 45 version, which means I'm now gonna be on the lookout for
another, absolute cherry condition 45 copy.....

database states LP version for this track, but did we verify this, or as Pat asks,
are the CD versions an alternate take.

I have since acquired a stereo reissue of the original vinyl LP on the MCA Coral label where the jacket clearly states "all selections previously released on Kapp album old number KS-3331 entitled ON TOP OF SPAGHETTI" and the banjo found on the 45 is definitely not present on the LP so we can safely assume that this is an LP vs 45 issue. What I still do not know is what the original mono version of the album includes for this song.
