My commercial 45, which is mono and confirmed as Stax 242, has a listed time of (2:40) and an actual time of (2:41). I only post this info because current database CDs that include the original recording of this song have run times ranging from (2:43) to (2:53). In general, the mono CD versions generally run shorter than the stereo CD versions. This song was a "45 only" release in early 1968, and did not appear on a Sam & Dave album until their "Best Of" LP was issued almost a year later, in early 1969. Perhaps this longer, stereo version first appeared on this album.

"I Thank You" appeared on the "I Thank You" vinyl LP which was Atlantic SD 8205 and the actual running time is exactly as stated on the jacket, (2:53).

Thanks for the correction, Pat. During my initial post I checked my Joel Whitburn "Top Albums" book, and the "I Thank You" album did not ever enter the Top 200 chart. The duo was so red hot at the time, that I thought it would be impossible that ANY LP they released back in 1968 wouldn't chart at all, but I now know that this was apparently not the case. I'm still surprised about it, though.

Sam & Dave's "I Thank You" album did hit #38 on Billboard's R&B LP chart in late 1968/early 1969.
