My commercial 45, which is mono and confirmed as Philips 40446, has a listed time of (2:58), but an actual time of (3:20).

Are there any good sounding CDs with this song? The 25th Anniversary box set on Rhino and the Time-Life collections all sound abysmal. I have a copy of "Very Best Of" on MCA from 1979 (vinyl, obviously), and it sounds significantly better than what I have on CD.

I think all sources for any stereo mix that Rhino has
released since the 80s stem from a stereo vinyl dub.
Could be a tape that got misfiled or junked somewhere
along the way. From what I understand, The Four Seasons
Partnership only owns the master tapes to Seasons and
Valli solo works and not the multi-tracks (if those even
still exist, which I assume they don't or else they would
have made an attempt to acquire them). This is why all
the Four Seasons Rhino discs
generally use all the same digital transfers give or take
a few tracks. They were one of the few acts that didn't
get the Bill Inglot remix treatment off the multis in the
Rhino glory days of the mid to late 80s.

That makes sense. The CD copies do sound like they have vinyl distortion, although I don't necessarily hear any ticks/clicks or vinyl rumble. It's just very distorted.

One more small observation. The CD version seems to have a small amount of reverb and compression added to it that the stereo Very Best Of LP does not have. I also pulled the mono 45 and compared it to the stereo versions. The mono version is a fold-down of the stereo version that's on my MCA vinyl Very Best Of LP. The 45 doesn't seem to have the extra reverb, but it does have a heavy dose of bass added to it.

There is a new 40 plus CD box set beginning prepared by
Snapper Records in England. Titled, The Four Seasons
Catalogue Box Set, it will include all their albums (in
mono and stereo) plus bonus tracks of the 45 mixes. Can't
Take My Eyes Off You (the original single) should be on
disc 13 with the stereo copy of the Frankie Valli Solo
album. Everything is being remastered for best sound by
Snapper's Engineers.

I've read about that box set, which has been in the works since 2018. It keeps getting pushed back, although I can't say I'd spring for a 40-disc box set of the 4 Seasons. With any luck, maybe the masters they uncover will be used for other smaller "hits" projects and/or digital download.

My impression is there are so many compilations out there that a box set spanning 40 discs would be overkill. IMHO of course.

I noticed the song (as famous as it is) doesn't appear domestically on CD in MONO.
Is the MONO a fold down of the STEREO? The mono I have suffers from the same distortion everyone is talking about.

The box set contents have been announced and though there
maybe a few changes between now and release date, in
December. No mono Can't Take My Eyes Off You will be found
as they could not locate a mono mastertape. But if the song
is a fold-down (as reported here) I guess it doesn't make
much difference.

Hopefully they located the stereo master tape instead of using the bad-sounding vinyl dub that's been reissued on every CD. I can say with 100% certainty that the stereo mix on the MCA LP folds down to the mono 45 perfectly.
