The database says LP version, but have been told Mama's Pearl on The Jacksons Story is the stereo 45 mix.
Is this true?
The database says the 45 version is on Anthology, but all pressings on the download services I think are the LP version.
How can one tell the difference?

As I recall, a (narrow) stereo remix matching the 45 was done for the Jackson 5 Greatest Hits album that came out in the early 70s. I thought that was what's on "The Jacksons Story" too, but maybe I was misinformed.

I believe you are correct in that the version on the Jacksons Story is the 45 version. You have to be careful with the Anthology situation because there were two different cd's issued called Anthology. The Motown 6194 Anthology has the 45 version while the Motown 012159650 Anthology has the LP version. I would guess the download services are using the newer Anthology which is the LP version.

a quick way to tell the difference between the 45 and LP version is that there is a "bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum" introduction sung by Tito Jackson on the 45.
only two CD's feature it in mono, no stereo version has the same introduction..
Anthology 1986 and Jacksons Story 2004

This comes as great news to me... I've been wanting the 45 version of "Mama's Pearl" on CD, but I held off buying the 1986 Anthology CD set because the song fades out :09 too soon. Now, thanks to you guys, I've now learned I already have the complete 45 version on the Jacksons Story disc I bought four years ago!
Hey, it's always exciting to cross an item off the "wish list" without having to lift a finger! :-)

My copy, which I grabbed at Napster, runs 3:09 on The Jacksons Story.
On my copy, just noticed you can hear some tape hiss at the end. Is it that way on the CD, too?

Hi Waldo,
Could you please edit/clarify your last post?
It's confusing to me, and might be confusing to others.
Thank you.

Hi Waldo,
What's confusing about it...?
"only two CD's feature it in mono, no stereo version has the same introduction..
Anthology 1986 and Jacksons Story 2004"
Anthology 1986 has it in stereo with Tito's bass-scat vocal. (I don't own 'Jacksons Story').
Could you kindly re-word your post more clearly.
Thank you.
Andy

I do believe the Jacksons Story version is also in stereo.
I would assume the mono 45 version won't see the light of day until the release of the Motown Singles 1971 set.

QFT means Quoted For Truth.
In other words, I agree wholeheartedly.

Andy.. are you sure Mama's Pearl on Anthology '86 is stereo? it sounds Mono to me. i always thought it was..
or was it simply the 45 mix folded to stereo. you're right.. maybe i'm confused.

I don't have Anthology but "Mama's Pearl" with Tito on the intro is in stereo on the British import Motown "Chartbusters 6" (which also contains a stereo single edit of River Deep Mountain High by Supremes and Four Tops) and on "Michael Jackson, The Motown Years" on Silver Eagle records (Canada)
Since they are imports they wouldn't be in the database.

Yes, Waldo, my copy of the 1986 'Anthology' has "Mama's Pearl definitely in stereo.

i didn't know the single mix - albeit in mono or stereo - was also used on this compilation, that's three Jackson CD compilations in total then to use it.

i noticed at the very end of Mama's Pearl on the Jacksons Story.. the song kind of fades out and then comes back in again for a split second or two.. is this sound dip a fault on my disc?
