anyone know if the 45 version is available on cd.........according to pats book the anthology cd is said to contain the 45 version, which is incorrect.....that cd version does not contain the humming of rick at the 1:19 to 1:23 mark while the 45 does.........also the remainder of the song is vastly different as well.........even though there are many 45 length (4:01-4:08) tracks available on cd none have the real 45 version...........can anyone else confirm this.......edtop40

The database still indicates that the 45 version of "17" is on the Anthology CD (Motown 440014483) among others. Pat, have you been able to confirm if your 45 copy matches the 4:08-4:10 version that has been popping up on CD? If it does, then Ed must have a different 45 version pressing.

No, I have been actively searching for a copy of "17" but have been unsuccessful. The comment I am sure was taken from the jacket of one of the Rick James cd's that states "45 version". I probably should change the comment to "neither the 45 nor LP version" until I obtain a copy.

I have the 45. All I have to do is dig it up. I am not so sure the version found on the recent Anthology is the correct edit.

I have obtained a vinyl 45 copy of "17" and I can say that this vinyl 45 version has yet to appear on any cd in the US.

Correct! But, the single version can be edited from the LP version found on "Reflections".

Just for the record, my commercial 45 is timed 4:03. The cat# is 1730GF, and the last three letters and digits in the dead wax read: 15A. It is indeed edited differently than the latest greatest hits CD on the market now.
I notice that The label also says "In Album: "SHOWER OF HITS" 6095GL". I have never seen or heard of this album, but the song did soonthereafter it's single release get issued on "Reflections: The all-Time Great Hits" that also came out in 1984. The album is on CD, but OOP.
The "Reflections" album also contains the single mix of "You And I".

I was going to recreate the 45 edit from the CD, but my vinyl copy is so clean that I just mastered that.

So the 45 version has no unique audio and is a straight up edit? Does anyone recall the edit points?
