Was there ever officially a promo CD single featuring an edit of this song? Reason being, both RPM Top Hits and TM Studios list an edit, that runs 3:58 (which I have).
To me, it sounds like a fade of the 4:29 version :30 early.
Anyone know an answer?

I seem to recall seeing it had a much shorter intro (:04 or so), which would mean there was an edit there.

Yes, Eric, right on the money - a :04 intro.
Having never heard the LP version until a moment ago on Napster, wasn't aware of any edit.
Besides the intro edit, it does fade early just after she sings "...some comfort here."

I happened to have my 1999 promo CD singles out tonight, and I recalled this thread; better late than never, I hope:
Sarah McLachlan-"Angel" (PRO-CD-9475)
1-(Edit) (listed 3:58; actual 4:00)
The version above does include the :04 intro mentioned above. FYI, our station opted to play the LP version of this song instead, during its entire chart run, from the "City Of Angels" soundtrack - we didn't think too much of that edited version. And we didn't do that (opt for an LP version not included on the promo CD single) very much at the time, as I recall.

Just noticed that this song is missing from the "City of Angels" soundtrack listing in the database.
That disc's listing also omits Alanis Morrissette's "Uninvited," which was a major airplay hit but may not meet Pat's standards as a top 40 hit as I believe its chart run was just before album cuts were eligible to be included in Billboard's Hot 100.

Speaking of "Uninvited", I know this was mentioned in another thread somewhere but I don't think there ever was a definate answer: was this song ever issued on a promo CD single - or was it strictly an album cut?

My understanding is that this never was on a promo CD single - because the record label didn't want the song promoted as a radio single. And what happened was radio stations just started playing it off the album anyway, as Alanis' career was very hot at that moment, and the song took off like wildfire, eventually getting to #1 or top 5 on the national airplay charts. I know I was never able to find a promo CD single and had to buy the "City of Angels" soundtrack. And I live in the city of Angels, where tons of promo singles can be found everywhere, and still, it never showed up in one used CD store or any record convention I went to. I can't say with 100% certainty that a U.S. promo CD single doesn't exist, but this is the story I was told. I wonder if this was available as a CD single in another country. Does anyone know?

EdisonLite, you're exactly right that "Uninvited" was never issued as a promo CD. Our station also played this from the City of Angels soundtrack.

Per chance, my friend "Smokin' Tom Gary" checked in with me tonight. He owns over 11,000 promo CD singles, and he just finished the huge task of catagorizing them all. I remembered the "Uninvited" promo CD single question, so just for the heck of it, I asked him about it. To my surprise, he told me he has a "test pressing" CD single. He said it is not a CD-R, has "CD deadwax" info of "B8K05QD3S". He said it has 4 tracks. Cut 3 and 4 are different tracks, but he says Cut 1 is "Demo Version", while Cut 2 is "Soundtrack Version". I obviously don't have any timing particulars, and what he has certainly wasn't very widely distributed, because just like Aaron stated above, we also played "Uninvited" off of the City Of Angels aoundtrack.

Wow! That must be a rare CD single. I've never heard of it until just now. I believe the record label told us that there was no promo single, so this is new news to my ears.
