Since the database currently has DJ CD single info regarding Paula Abdul's "Cold Hearted", I thought I'd also pass along that commercial 45 copies of the 1988 hit 45 pressings run 3:33. (Thanks to abagon for providing the timing info. The printed record label time is 3:34.)

both my commercial 45 and commercial cassingle are issued with the same catalog number, virgin 99196, and both have the stated run time as 3:34 and they do run that length...they do not state that the version inclosed is a remix or edit, which it clearly is....

Question for anyone who has the "Cold Hearted" promo CD single... Is there a more specific track description given for the 3:29 remix?

Was the 1988 release the one with or without the double-tracked pseudo-rap over the bridge?

Todd, here is the exactly worded info, from my 1989 promo CD single:

Paula Abdul-"Cold Hearted" (PRCD2776)
1-Cold Hearted (non-described version) (listed & actual time 3:34)
2-Cold Hearted (Remix) (listed & actual time 3:28)

Does anyone know what the second track on this promo labeled as "Remix" is? Single mix without rap perhaps?

No, it actually is a remix, but I haven't listened to it in years, so I can't recall what it's like. It's not an edit of the House mix, I know that.

Would anyone happen to have the second track, "Remix", from this release to share?

I sent it to you a week ago -- didn't you get it?

EDIT: Your In Box is full -- that's why you didn't get it. Please clear out your In Box and I will send it again.

I only had about 7 messages and no indication of it being full, but I just wiped those suckers out. Hope it works and thanks so much!

Huge thanks to Brian W! For anyone who was curious, it's a unique 7" mix based on the "Extended Version" elements.

I wonder how much airplay this version got during "Cold Hearted"'s chart run.

I have the following 12" single: https://www.discogs.com/Paula-
Abdul-Cold-Hearted/release/300099

The "7" Edit" (on this 12 inch) sounds like an edit of the "Quiverin
12" mix. Is the version on the 45 this "7" Edit?" Also, is the "Remix"
on the promo CD single different from the "7" Edit" (on my 12 inch)?
I would assume that there would just be an edit of the album
version on the 45 since that's what I remember hearing back in the
day.

Based on Underground Dub's description that the unique 7" mix is
based on the "Extended Version" confuses me because the
"Extended Version" sounds like just that, an extended version of the
album version.

I do not own the 45 for comparison.

Thanks.

I was researching different versions of this song today so here is some feedback to the above question. Better late than never, I suppose :-)

-The '7" Edit' on the 12" Single that chendagam references in the above post is an edit of the 'Quiverin 12"'. The 12" length of that mix (A1 on the release noted above) is also available digitally on Paula's Shut Up and Dance:
Dance Mixes
album. You can re-create the shorter "Quiverin'" 7" edit from the longer variant pretty easily.

-The true 45 Version is Track 1 on the promo CD single. This mix sounds practically identical to the LP Version, but they are easily differentiated due to the fact that Paula's "rap" section (which appears at about 1:34 of the 45
Version) does not exist in the Forever Your Girl album version, but was added to the single mix. The 45 Version is easily obtainable, having appeared on both of Paula Abdul's official greatest hits collections and a
smattering of other releases.

-The "Remix" that appears as Track 2 on the promo CD single seems to be unique to that release, and does not match the 'Quiverin' 7"' discussed above. On a casual listen, one could easily mistake the Promo CD "Remix" for the main
45 Version, but in doing an A/B comparison, the "Remix" has an obviously harder/more forceful rhythm track, and does resemble the main 12" "Extended Version". (again, not the 'Quiverin' 12"').

There is also a UK 'single edit' of the Chad Jackson House Mix. I don't believe the straight House Mix (by Keith Cohen) that we got in the U.S. was ever edited down to radio/single length.

I think the first place the 45 version of "Cold Hearted" was released on a commercial CD might have been on this 1990 CD Maxi import of remixes from the "Shut Up and Dance" album. It's an unlisted 4th track on the CD:

https://www.discogs.com/Paula-Abdul-Cold-Hearted/release/934 903

I remember being very pleasantly surprised when I bought it back in the day, because I didn't have the promo. (Things were so much more difficult to get before the Internet.)

I think I have the same disc, Brian! I didn't love the Chad Jackson
mixes when the song was current, but they've grown on me over the
years.
