I asked this question a while ago and figured I'd throw it out there again.....

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of songs where the actual 45 version isn't on CD? Pat's site is great in letting us know if a particular song is available in any version, LP or 45 or neither, but unless you go artist by artist and track by track there is no way to identify what version is available.

I know the users of this group are extremely detailed oriented (more than I could ever be) and figured someone may have a running list of songs in which the correct 45 version isn't available on CD?

It's funny but when I first started using Pat's book and this site, I never cared which version I had, just as long as I had the song......but reading the threads has certainly given me the 45 version bug.

Thanks.

I just tried an experiment and it seemed to work. In the database, if you leave all the fields blank and click the 'on cd' button, it lists all songs not currently on domestic CD.

Fetta, I think the reason you didn't get a good answer last time is that there is NO good answer!   :)
Eggheads like me, who are into it "deep", have our own, individual lists. We have to. I don't think even Pat owns every CD in his own database! (we help him with the Hip-O Select items, that don't choose to send him free "review" copies.) As a result, would a "master list" really help? We all must customize what versions we have/need, based on our own collections. Just because a database CD says "45 version" on it, what if we don't have it? Or can't find it, because it's long out-of-print? Or only found on a pricey box set? Personally, we may still need it, despite its database appearance. As was recently discussed in another thread, most of us folks use one of the many available inventory software programs; some still even use the Joel Whitburn "Pop Annuals" (yours truly included; most issues of it have "blocks", where you can color/pencil it in when you "have" the version of a song you want.) I'm sure Pat could certainly produce a list of these "45 version not on a domestic CD" (using a similar symbol to his current "not on a domestic CD" designation.) But it just seems to me that some of us have these big suggestions, that would be VERY helpful, I 100% agree. But it would probably take Pat thousands of man hours to research/implement. What if his "current database maintenance duties" take up plenty enough of his time already? I don't think Pat's getting rich running this database/Chat Board, do you? Would we all be willing to have our annual subscriptions doubled/tripled, just so he can hire someone else to help him with massive new projects like these? I know most of us (including me) wish that the database could be changed in some ways. But the reality is that Pat has repeatedly told us it would simply require more time/effort than he can put into it right now. I, for one, take him at his word, and choose instead to be thankful/work with what we've got right now.

Jimct,

Thanks for your response.

When I asked the question, it wasn't at all directed to Pat changing his database in anyway. (I am still amazed to this day that he was able to compile what is already in the database).     The questions was to the users of the site if they have compiled this data for themselves. Many times on this chatboard people organize their information in similar ways, hence me saying:

"I know the users of this group are extremely detailed oriented (more than I could ever be) and figured someone may have a running list of songs in which the correct 45 version isn't available on CD"

If someone else has this, it would be great to see and a big help to me. But again, the question was never directed towards Pat.
