Pat, you mention that the remix is on "More Music from 'Coyote Ugly' ".

Wasn't there also a "Coyote Ugly" soundtrack and didn't it contain the 45 version?

The version on the first Coyote Ugly soundtrack is the original, which is quite different from the hit remix version.

Aaron,

I have the cd single for "Can't Fight The Moonlight" Curb 73116 and it is identical to the version on my soundtrack cd to "Coyote Ugly" Curb 78703. You mention that the hit version is the remix but that isn't what is on my soundtrack cd so the question must be asked if there are two different pressings of the soundtrack cd. Here is the matrix number stamped on my copy of this cd 3 D2 78703-2 RE-1 01. What worries me is the RE-1 on my matrix number.

Pat, I don't dispute the fact that your CD single and soundtrack are the same. However, most top 40 stations played the "Graham Stack Remix" rather than the soundtrack version. The remix is the one that became the hit, although I don't know if it was on the CD single or not, because I don't own the single.

As I mentioned above, the cd single which is what was for sale to the public, was the soundtrack version and that is the version that Billboard listed on their charts so I feel I have to list that as the 45 version.

Agreed. The 45 version is the one from the original soundtrack and the cd single; however, the remix, which is on More Music From Coyote Ugly, as EdisonLite mentions above, is the one that most top 40 radio stations played and became the "hit" version.

Actually, it's think it's arguable as to what was the "hit" version. In my city (L.A.), my pop station played both versions but I heard the original version more than the remix. Also, my AC stations played the original versions. I have the CD single and it is the original, and it matches the album version, so I'd have to say all those should be considered the 45 version, and the version on "More Music" should be listed as "remix".

Yes, there's not an argument from me as to how the song should be listed. In Michigan, I never heard the original version on any of the top 40 stations I listened to and/or worked at; however, there were obviously markets who played the 45 version. On my Promo Only - Mainstream Radio series, they issued the "remix" when the song was released. For some strange reason, nine months later, they issued the original version.

I'll jump in here and agree with the overall consensus... The version of "Can't Fight the Moonlight" on the original soundtrack and CD single should be considered the 45 version even though the Graham Stack Remix received the most Top 40 airplay in many markets. I would take EdisonLite's comment an extra step further and say the remix on the More Music from Coyote Ugly CD should be listed as: (radio remix).

According to my research, there was an official 3-track promo CD single release for LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight the Moonlight" on Curb CS333 with the following track listing and printed run times:

1) ALBUM VERSION - 3:35
2) GRAHAM STACK RADIO EDIT - 3:35
3) THUNDERPUSS RADIO EDIT - 3:36

Can anyone who has this, or any other existing promo CD single release for this song, please pass along the actual run times? Thanks!

I checked my promo single for this, and the actual disc
agrees with what Todd posted. The jewel case inserts
though, show only one, non-described version.

Catalog # shown on the insert is PRCD-300280, there is no
number on the disc itself.

I have two promo CDs for "Can't Fight The Moonlight" that are different from the one Hykker has:

CURBD-1582
1. non-described version (3:35)

CURBD-1629
1. Album Version (3:35; actual 3:33)
2. Graham Stack Radio Remix (3:35; actual 3:33)

My copy of CURBD-1629 has professionally pressed inserts; however, the disc itself is a Mitsui CD-R with a paper adhesive label. I have other promo CDs on Curb Records that are pressed on Mitsui CD-Rs instead of factory-pressed discs, and some of them do not play any longer. The LeAnn Rimes disc plays just fine in my regular stand-alone CD player, but my computer's disc drive is having major troubles ripping it using EAC.

A WORD OF CAUTION: If you also own Curb promo CD singles from this time period, you may want to check them to see if they are on CD-Rs. I have had several promo CD-Rs go bad and are no longer playable, especially ones from the early 2000s put out by Curb & Universal. The discs that seem to be most affected are the ones with a very pale green dye color. Discs pressed on "Mitsui Gold" CD-Rs, which have a golden dye color, still seem to play okay, and so do CD-Rs issued by Sony/Columbia/Epic with a medium green-colored dye.

This song had two chart runs. The CD single and the one-track promo Aaron mentions were issued featuring only the original album version in late summer 2000. It first debuted in September 2000 and was a smash all over the world except in the U.S., where it only reached number 71. While it was still in its first chart run, maxi-singles were released with eight (!!!) remixes.

A year later, after the original soundtrack had sold over three million copies, Curb decided to work the song again and issued the two-track promo Aaron mentions. It re-entered the chart in December 2001 and this time reached number 11. This time many (perhaps most, but by no means all) radio stations played the "Graham Stack Radio Remix". A few weeks into this second chart run, Billboard even started to list Graham Stack as a co-producer. (Graham Stack had nothing to do with the original version.)

So there were at least three different promo CDs.

Hykker, does the year 2001 appear anywhere on your 3-track promo CD? That would indicate that it was issued when Curb was promoting the song for the second time.

date noted on the disc itself.

I just obtained the 3-track promo CD single, and I believe the "CS333" number referenced above is the eBay seller's inventory number--not a catalog number. I've bought several things from that seller, and all of his listings have a similar number, which I believe helps him locate items in his huge inventory.

Unlike Hykker's copy, the disc I just obtained has a catalog number on both the insert and disc, and the track listing is shown on the back insert.

Curb D-1592 / PRCD 300374 (both numbers are listed)
1. Album Version (3:35 listed; 3:33 actual)
2. Graham Stack Radio Edit (3:35 listed: 3:34 actual)
3. Thunderpuss Radio Edit (3:36 listed & actual)

Another case where I never heard the album version on the CD single, only the Graham Stack Radio Edit. A might good remix for its time. Too bad the song did not get into the top 10...

Unfortunately, my copy appears to be one of those, and no
longer plays, or is recognized by any player of CD-ROM
drive I have. :-(
