Todd just sent me a copy of "I Wanna Be Rich" from Power Jams (K-Tel), and it has a faint note/reverb overlapping the opening drum beats. By contrast, this faint note cannot be heard on Forever Pop, Vol. 3.
Does the faint overlapping note appear on the LP version? The sound quality on Forever Pop, Vol. 3 is slightly muddier than on Power Jams. I wonder if this is a case where the LP version was edited to re-create the 45 version in order to enhance the sound quality. I also have this on a GoldDisc, and it has poor sound quality (overused noise reduction). Furthermore, it fades to the 4:37 mark. Does anyone have the actual run time of the promo CD?

We received two different promo CD singles into the station for this song, and here are all the details:
Calloway-"I Wanna Be Rich" (ZSK 2033)
1-(Radio Edit) (listed 3:58; actual 4:02) (there is no current reference to this version in the database, and this was the version that we played on-air in 1990)
Calloway-"I Wanna Be Rich" (ZSK 74005) (no listed times)
1-(7" Version) (actual time 4:48)
2-(Extended Mix) (actual time 7:22)
Neither the "Radio Edit" nor the "7" Version" on my promo CD singles include the faint note/reverb overlapping the opening drum beats mentioned earlier in the thread.

Great info, Jim! I had no idea that a "Radio Edit" existed for this song. Thanks for posting your promo CD info.

Boosting the high end on Forever Pop, Vol. 3 makes the song sound much better, and it runs the same length as Jim's promo CD single.

The Radio Edit is two edits and an early fade of the 7" Version.
Starting with the Forever Pop version working backwards...
- remove from 4:24 to the end and create a 12 second fade (starting at about 4:12)
- delete from 3:13.7 to 3:30.5 (editing on the downbeat)
- remove the first 8 beats (4.5 seconds - opening rhythm section doesn't repeat twice; drums start and then spoken vocal comes in "cold, cash...")
