There are a couple CDs in the database that indicate "LP version but missing the :42 coda." Perhaps these CDs have the "Radio Version." I have a 3:56 version on my Promo Only CD (cut about a second short, as it ends a little abruptly if you crank the volume at the end). The promo CD single also has these tracks:

1. Radio Version (3:57)
2. Original Mix (3:32)
3. Gunshot Mix (5:19)

Is it accurate to say that the "Radio Version" is the same as the LP version without the coda? Is it also accurate to say that the "Original Mix" (aka 45 version) is the LP version without the coda and introduction?

I there there may be a mix difference for the radio version.

I think the LP version has the line "p***in' the night away" repeated twice by the female singer at the beginning of each verse.

I've heard versions where an "s" sound is dubbed onto the beginning of that line so it sounds like "sissin' the night away".

Does the promo single have the "s" dubbed in on the radio version?

The "Radio Version" on my Promo Only compilation does not have a clear "p" sound at the beginning of "pissin' the night away." It does sound a little bit like an "s," now that you mention it. I'll have to pull out my commercial CD single to see what the "Original Mix" sounds like on it. I'm not sure I've ever even heard the LP version, so perhaps that's why I wasn't aware of the difference. Thanks for pointing it out, Ron!

Aaron, I can confirm that the listed times are also the actual times for all three tracks on the promo CD single you mentioned in this thread's opening post (U5P-1202). FYI, our station played track 2 ("Original Mix") on-the-air as a current in 1997.

I just compared my commercial CD single's "Original Mix" to the version on my Promo Only compilation (which is presumably the Radio Version). They sound the same to me on the line "pissin' the night away." Listening more carefully in headphones, both versions sound like they say "pissin'." Perhaps when I wasn't hearing it clearly at first, I had too much whiskey drink...too much vodka drink...

Ed reports that the "Original Mix" on his commercial CD single of Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping" has a run time of 3:35, which would be several seconds longer than the "Orignal Mix" as it appears on the promo CD single. Just curious, Aaron, what is the run time you come up with on your commercial single copy?

By the way, did we ever come to a conclusion regarding Aaron's earlier questions as to whether the "Radio Version" is the same as the LP version without the coda, and if the "Original Mix" (a.k.a. the single version) is identical to the LP version without the coda and introduction? (I have a strong hunch the answer is yes to both, but of course I know we never form any conclusions here on hunches!)

Yes, my commercial copy is just like Ed's. The only difference between the Original Mix and the Radio Version, as far as I can tell, is that the latter has the 20-some second introduction that sounds nothing like the rest of the song.

actually, the running time of the 'original mix' is 3:32 on
my cd single......there is 0:03 of dead air at the end of
the track to account for the mistaken 3:35 original
post......please amend....
