in another thread about the rhino 45/singles set, it states that the song "hold my hand" by hootie & the blowfish is the radio edit.....does anyone have any info on what versions are on thye promo cd single??....there is no mention in the db about a shorter version than the 4:14 cd/lp version....

My promo CD is a 1-track with the full-length album version. I've never seen any other promo CDs, but I've seen import CDs list "Radio Edit." I don't know if they actually contain an edited version, though.

My Stock 45 of Atlantic 7-87231 lists Hold My Hand (Radio Edit) on the B side. It has a listed time of (4:14) but actually runs just a hair over (4:13). Aside from the 45 running just a very small bit faster (which actually only seems to happen right within the last 20 seconds of the song -- the 45 and cd version stayed 99.9% in sync until right up to the very end), the 45 and CD versions are the exact same recording. When folding both to mono and playing them side by side digitally I did not hear any instruments jumping out louder in one version than another however in stereo the 45 seemed to have a narrower stereo mix than the CD but otherwise i believe the 45 and album versions to contain the same mix as well.

We got in two different promo CD singles for this song, PRCD-5686-2 and PRCD-5708-2. But, aside from different promo numbers (and a plain white jewel box insert for the second one), they both contain the same, one track on both of them: the listed & actual (4:14) version.

I've seen a radio edit online for this song too, with a listed time of 3:43.

It's the same (4:14) version on the promo CDs Atlantic's
Year In Review 1994
, Hot Hits Pop Vol. 30 and
Top Hits RH27.

Don't know of any official releases of a (3:43) edit.

One station i first heard it on was WPLJ in NY. At that
time they were Hot AC (might still be) and some may
remember programmers were still shy about allowing our
delicate ears to hear a guitar solo...
So their edit of this awful, at about 8 or 9 beats into
the guitar break, it chopped horribly right the last
chorus. It was very clunky edit, with a gap.
They later switched to the normal version.
Now that i think of it, i think they did same thing with
"Time" .. played a sloppy edit at first.

So i guess i'm curious if 'PLJ did that in a hurry
themselves, or was that actually sent out by the label.
I assumed they did it themselves.

You'd think in market #1 that there would be no place for sloppy edits.
As others have noted, I don't recall there being an edit of this...indeed the only Hootie song I can think of with a radio edit was "Let Her Cry".
