I just discovered that the CD version on "25th Anniversary Collection" is not the 45 version. It's close, and matches quite well, except for the line, "...And I believe" at about 2:10, and at 2:43, the word "just" is much stronger on the CD than on the 45, where the word breaks up a bit. Both the 45 and DJ-45 are the same, but they're definitely different than the CD version. I'm thinking that the DB listing should denote this an alternate or maybe an LP version. However, I only have the "25th Anniv" CD to compare. Can anyone check other versions? Incidentally, I've checked the vinyl "Timeless" and "Very Best Of Frankie Valli" LPs and neither contains this 45 version.

How do the mono vs stereo sides of the promo 45 compare? I have the promo somewhere, but I so detest this song I don't think I could listen thru it twice.
What it sounds like though from your description is that there was either a mix error or tape dropout in the 45 master which was repaired or corrected later on (maybe during the CD mastering).

Hykker, I like your explanation Because most of the song matches very well, except for some speed differences. Unfortunately, my promo copy is not a stereo/mono. Just mono, so I can't help with that. I wonder if the 45 appears anywhere...

Robert, do you have a commercial copy of "To Give" as I would like to know if it is mono. The reason I ask is that I have a mono/stereo dj 45 and there are differences between the two, namely drums being audible on the mono version at 1:10 that I do not hear on the stereo version.

Pat, Yes I have a commercial copy and a DJ copy, but they are both mono and they are both identical. As for the drums, I just listened again to both my mono DJ and mono commercial and compared them with the stereo LP/CD and I think maybe the drums are just a bit more prominent in the mono version, but not by much. I'd be interested in learning whether the stereo DJ version matches the mono 45 single or the LP/CD stereo version.
