I'm most familiar with the hit studio version of BoDeans' "Closer to Free" as it appears on the group's Go Slow Down CD. However, I have a longer "live" version on my Promo Only Mainstream Radio subscription CD series that runs 3:35. I don't have a commercial or promo single of this song, but my research indicates that a "live" version appeared on both.
Does anyone recall hearing (or playing) this "live" version of "Closer to Free" on the radio? If anyone who has the commercial and/or promo single could pass along the track listing and run time info, that might be helpful too.

I don't know about a live version, but my promo CD on Slash/Reprise (PRO-CD-8097-R) has:
1. Radio Version (3:08)
2. Album Version (3:09)
The only difference is that the Radio Version, if I remember correctly, removes the yell before the first verse. Our station always played the Album Version with the yell.

I have the commercial CD single (Slash/Reprise 2-17674) and Track 1 is the
Studio Album Version (listed 3:09, actual 3:08) and Track 2 is the Live Album
Version (listed 3:54, actual 3:52). The live track is from the album Joe Dirt
Car (Slash/Reprise 45945).

Thanks for the info, Aaron and Paul! The "live" version on my Promo Only CD runs shorter than on the commercial CD single, but it's very possible the engineer who mastered the Promo Only disc may have taken liberty to edit or fade out some of the beginning and ending audience applause. It's also possible this shorter "live" version could be on a promo CD single.

Aaron, I have a total of 3 different "Closer To Free" promo CD singles. Two are identical, except for the stock #'s, as WB was prone to do during this time. So, in addition to the PRO-CD-8097-R promo you cite above, the exact same two tracks also appear on PRO-CD-6594. Now to the "live" version. Here is the info for my third promo CD single:
Bodeans-"Closer To Free" (PRO-CD-7979)
1-Studio Album Version (listed 3:09; actual 3:08)
2-Live Album Version (listed 3:54; actual 3:53)

The radio version, without the yell, is not noted as
being on any CD's in the database. Besides the promo CD
single, It's also on a Hitmakers CD sampler from 1994, a
full 2 years before it was a hit. I also have it on a Top
Hits U.S.A. disc.
