My cassette single (same label and #) has an intro that cannot be recreated
from the version I have on the CD Schubert Dip (EMI 96238). The
cassette single intro has four quick drum hits, and a screechy keyboard over
the second part of the intro, before the vocal comes in at approximately 9
seconds. I wonder if this version is one of the mixes listed on the UK CD
single (the "Where's Axl" mix and so forth).

I own a promo CD single for this song, and here are the details, which includes another listed timing error - this time, cut 1's time is inaccurate by :39 seconds:

EMF-"Lies" (DPRO-4816)
1-Lies (Where's Axl?) (listed 3:38; actual 4:17)
2-Lies (listed 3:38; actual 3:37)
3-Lies (The Hit Man Mix) (listed 3:59; actual 4:01)

Well, this is interesting... The database indicates that EMF's "Lies" has a run time of 4:27 on the CD Schubert Dip (EMI 96238). However, the song only runs 4:19 on my copy of that disc and is identical to how the track appears on the EMF/Jesus Jones Back 2 Back Hits CD (EMI-Capitol Special Markets 19641), which has a database comment of "LP version but missing the :07 prologue".

So I must have a different CD pressing of Schubert Dip because I don't see or hear a :07 prologue preceding "Lies". What exactly is my copy missing?

Yes, your copy is probably missing the spoken part with some lyrics recited
from John Lennon's "Watching The Wheels." From Wikipedia:

...controversial for including a voice sample of Mark Chapman, John
Lennon's murderer. Yoko Ono achieved an injunction, and a modified version
was included in future pressings.

Thanks for the info, Aaron. Upon further research, it appears the :07 Mark Chapman prologue only appeared on early pressings of EMF's Schubert Dip. Shortly after the album's initial release, EMI quickly modified all future pressings after Yoko Ono sued to have the prologue removed.

So it sounds like Schubert Dip CD pressings containing the LP version of "Lies" with the (creepy) :07 prologue may be rare and possibly even considered a collector's item. Does anyone know if there are any distinguishing features on these early pressings that would indicate if the :07 prologue is on them (i.e. - different matrix number, catalog number, etc.)?

Also, does anyone recall which version of "Lies" they most often heard (or played) on the radio?

My commercial cassingle information matches edtop40's, and this version
matches Track 2 of jimct's promo CD. The cassingle version is NOT the
same as the "Where's Axl?" mix, as you can tell from the opening drums.
