my commercial cassingle of the song "(if there was) any
other way" by celine dion does not state a version or
run time on the cassingle or sleeve but is actually an
extended version with a true running time of
4:13....this single info s/b added to the db...

i've attached some notes from todd's expansive entry
regarding single/lp version differences....

I asked Ed if the commercial single version of "(If
There Was) Any Other Way" is a different mix than the LP
version. He sent me an mp3 copy and I did an A/B
comparison to the 4:00 version on my Celine Dion Unison
CD. Basically the mixes are very similar. However, the
single version does have reverb added to it, which is
most noticeable on the song's opening percussion
strikes. The single mix also has an added synthesizer
overdub from 2:49-2:51.

Ed and I both say the 4:13 single is a distinct version.
So my comments for "(If There Was) Any Other Way" should
be revised to read: Single version - 4:13. Album version
- 4:00.

I have two different promo CD singles for this song. And, for the first time in my recollection, both the 1-track and 2-track variations have the exact same "stock" # (ESK 73665). It was as if Epic had wanted to eliminate any evidence of the first, 1-track ESK 73665 promo, and replace it with the 2-track. The inner CD groove states "DISP 000916 3" for the initial, 1-track promo, but "DISP 000916 4" for the second, 2-track promo. Here are the details:

Celine Dion-"(If There Was) Any Other Way" (ESK 73665)
1-(non-described version) (listed 3:59; actual 4:13)
(this disc says "Remixed By Dana Jon Chappelle")

Celine Dion-"(If There Was) Any Other Way" (ESK 73665)
1-(non-described version) (listed & actual 3:54) **
2-(non-described version) (listed & actual 5:39)
(this disc says "Remixed By Daniel Abrahams")

This second promo CD single issue also included a black sticker with purple writing on the front of the jewel case, stating in bold print "REMIX".

** - FYI, we played Cut 1 from the 2-track promo on-the-air as a current in 1991.

My friend Johann just e-mailed with a query about this song tonight. I see I already provided full details here on the Board 2 months ago, so I'm just bumping this thread up for Johann.

Based on a dub of Chuck's 45, it appears the vinyl single may have the album version on it. The 45 label shown on Discogs states "Remix" and credits Dana Jon Chappelle and Walter Afanasieff, but the mix of Chuck's dub matches the Unison CD.

Chuck, can you look to see if your 45 also says "Remix" on the label? It's possible there are two pressings.

My U.S. commercial 45 has the label Aaron describes, but I cannot
detect any difference between it and the Unison CD version. The
label correctly states the run time as 3:59.

The song charted in Canada in the spring of 1990, a year before it did
in the U.S.

Thanks for confirming, Paul! I believe the intention was to include the remix on the 7" single (same mix on the cassette single), but it appears the album version was used accidentally. The remix credits and printed time of 3:59 are also on the promo CD, but the CD definitely has the remix and not the Unison album version.

Once and for all, the 4:13 is the hit version, correct?

So Aaron, is the single remix only available on the promo CD single?

The 3:54 (listed and actual) remix on the second promo CD single that Jim listed above
is what got all airplay here.

Does anybody out there have the 3:54 & 5:39 disc?

I'd love to hear them!

I've been listening to the 3:54. Its quite a different mix with about 15 seconds of instrumental from 2:52 to 3:07 with an added beat on it. I still remember that 4:13 being played more here in New York. The opening beat for the first few seconds on the 3:54 is entirely different though then the remix or the LP version. That's how you can easily identify it.

I'd love to hear these 3:54 and 5:39 versions, too. I
had no idea that they existed until reading this thread.
According to Discogs, they were remixed by Daniel
Abrahams, who did remixes for the commercial singles for
Amy Grant's "Heart in Motion" album.
