I was told by a fellow chat member that all of the EMI & CEMA CDs with Don McLean's "Castles In the Air" is NOT the hit 1981 version released on Millenium Records, but the original 1972 version (the B-side of "Vincent") - and that EMI would own the 1972 recording but not the 1981 Millenium recording. Can anyone confirm exactly which CDs truly contain the 1981 hit recording that was on Millenium Records? The database seems to indicate a lot of the EMI & CEMA CDs do contain the Millenium recording.

On the disc EMI 81654 Legendary Songs Of Don McLean it's the 1981 hit version.

I had purchased tracks from Favorites and Rarities digitally. Andrew is correct. The Mediarts version is Track 1, the Millennium version is Track 17.
I also have the song on Tapestry, which was apparently recorded in 1970. The version from Tapestry and the Mediarts version sound different though.
