Normally don't import info from another board, but BSN has a post by
Collector's Choice CD's long-time heartbeat, Gordon Anderson, informing
one and all that today (12/30) is his last day, after 17 years on the job there.
With all the recent corporate turmoil under that entire organizational
umbrella, it's not the least bit surprising, but still very sad nonetheless.
Many thanks, Gordon, for all your fine work - I've long considered you the
"gold standard" of re-issue people.

Very sad news. Haven't received the new paper catalog yet, but apparently this message is in it, with some encouraging news:

Quote:
Well, folks, the song is over for me here at Collectors' Choice Music. After 17 years, I have decided that the time has come for me to move on, and yes, I have cried a few tears over it. But there's a big difference between what happened to my beloved WCOL-FM and what is going to happen to my beloved Collectors' Choice Music when I am gone -- the next deejay is going to be playing the same songs. In fact, Joe Van Horn, the man who is going to take my place, was the person responsible for merchandising the Collectors' Choice Music website for most of the years we have been in business. So I am leaving you in the best hands possible, and I know for a fact that Joe is going to do a bang-up job bringing you the hard-to-find, wonderfully eclectic mix of music that has been our trademark for so long.

...

As for me, well, I'm not sure what lies ahead, but I will no doubt turn up somewhere in this crazy music industry. And just like I did all those years in the drivers' seat of CCM, I'll keep steering my craft towards music that's authentic and fresh. Searching for a note, you might say. Pure and easy.
Goodbye

Gordon

Another encouraging note from a poster on the Steve Hoffman board:

Quote:
Super D has quite an experienced music braintrust, including a good friend of mine.

They didn't buy CCM to put it out of business or render it obsolete...(although the centrally-located warehouse was a key part of the acquisition, from what I understand)...and Super D is now more oriented to direct-to-consumer retail than wholesale.

I too am sorry to learn of Gordon Anderson's departure as he has no doubt produced some outstanding CD titles for Collector's Choice Music over the years. By the same token, I am relieved to hear this isn't the end of the road for the record label. I just hope the great quality we've come to expect from CCM doesn't begin to decline (as we've seen in recent years with some reissue labels like Rhino).
