Whitburn lists 3:28, database lists both 3:30 and 3:23 length as being 45 version. Perhaps version on "Can You Dig It" should say "truncated fade"?

Brian, by truncated fade I do not mean "faded early", I mean the fade is interrupted or "truncated" in a fashion that to the ear would be the equivalent of a dropout - one which ends the song.

Oh... Well, at any rate, fading seven seconds early is enough to make note of in the database, in my opinion.

Do we know the actual vinyl 45 run time of "Why Can't We Live Together"? Whitburn may say 3:28 but his run times are often based on the time printed on the record label and therefore not always accurate. Does anyone have a 45 copy who can check for us?

to bring this tune forward, the database did not get updated for that 3:23
version. Also, ed states his 45 runs 3:30 not 3:28 (but is under the 3 second
rule to not warrant individual song version entries).

Does the 45 indeed simply fade earlier than the LP version? If so, why is it
"version" and not "length"? Perhaps due to Pat's feeling that if the LP
"ending" is substantially different from the 45, it gets "version" and in this
song's case, the LP ends with the organ playing quite different from the 45
part of the song.

David, the commercial 45 of Timmy Thomas' "Why Can't We Live Together" is indeed an early fade of the LP length. I don't know if there are two different commercial 45 pressings, but the 45 dub I have is in mono and runs 3:28.

By the way, has anyone ever heard this song on anywhere in decent sound quality? The sonics are hissy and dull on every source I've come across.

Where does the fade begin on the 45?

That's the way the recording is. It was done
on the cheap.

The fade starts at 3:21 exactly.
