The database states that several CDs feature the 45 version of this song.
However, the version I have on "The Essential" and the earlier "Ultimate"
seem to have a different edit point near 4:09 to 4:13 (as compared to the 45)
resulting in a different "...and let's celebrate, all the love we got". Is this
actually an "edit of the LP version in an unsuccessful attempt to create the 45
version"? If so, does this also affect any of the other CDs with "45 version"?

(I will make a confession, I'm basing this off my memory, and what is on my
copies of American Top 40 from early 1987, since I no longer own this 45.
But this song was always one of my favorites, so I'm fairly certain that I'm not
mis-remembering. Feel free to ostracize me if I'm wrong.) :)

Great catch! You are exactly right. The correct 45 edit is on the official music video on YouTube (posted by sonymusicvevo), which matches the 45 dub I have. There is definitely an incorrect short edit on CD, so Pat will have to sort out which ones are correct.

Oddly enough, all of the Sony cd's have the improper edit. The only correct 45 version appears on a Time-Life cd Superstars Of The 80s box set (or the individual cd inside the box titled Superstars Of The 80s: Dance Hall Days)

John, there is also an improper edit on the intro. If you listen to the very first beat on both versions, you'll hear the tail end of a high hat on the correct 45 edit. This is not present on the improper edit. I didn't check the other edits to see if they are correct or not.
